Yeah, I've never seen cherry picking that good!
They've lost both Game 1's in the playoffs, not a big surprise they lost this one. They will bounce back with a strong effort Sunday night, count on it.

Piss poor game by the Flyers...they got manhandled and they looked lost out there. The lack of a good puck carrying defenseman REALLY seemed to hurt them. It's a shame really, since the Pens weren't exactly on their A game either.
Hopefully this thing picks up on Sunday, or the Flyers will be sent packing early.

Can anyone confirm that Malkin was onsides for that 3rd goal? I wasnt able to watch the game and just saw the goal from NHL.com highlights and the angle was bad. Did they show another angle during the telecast? Looked close to me

God that's a painful thing to say.
The Sens were for the second half of the season reminded me a lot of the 1988 BlueJays. The team was a zoo, Emery took the role of George Bell and their manager had as much luck of controlling the circus as Jimy Williams did. That team wasnt' going to get anywhere, and neither really did.

Thank you. I wasn't trying to insult any one or the Penguins, just saying that beating Ottawa really shouldn't be considered a feather in the hat or anything of value really other than the fact that it was a win.

I'm not going to call it cherry picking as he was probably pretty groggy from the hit and was trying to get back to the play. Have you ever seen a player take a slap shot like that other than at the skills competition at the All Star weekend for the hardest/fastest shot? Nope.
He wasn't all there. He's being hailed as great, but had he just shot it off of Biron's chest, everyone would be harping on him for it. Malkin is a guy who is going to normally make a move, but at the same time, I'm reminded of his dismal piss poor penalty shot attempt against the Rangers.

All of the Pens goals were the result of Flyer turnovers. They looked good but the Flyers gave them the game. They had their chances and didn't get the job done. Now I sound like a Montreal fan from the last series. Seriously, that power play was awful and their neutral zone play was brutal. They're lucky it was only a 2 goal game.
We'll see how things go on Sunday.

Is anyone else mad that Malkin was rewarded for laziness with a goal?
I see him get hit, and all of a sudden his inability to get back into a play where his team is down 5-3 (not including him since he didn't get back) allows him to get lucky.
Sure it was a great shot, but Malkin should get back into the play and not coast back just because he got hit.
My opinion. Maybe he did get rattled but I have a lot of bias against Malkin, so if you believe me to be a dumb Malkin basher then call me out on it. I'm all for it.

It looked like Timonen's absence was a MAJOR factor which makes me think they will probably lose this series. They were simply unable to move the puck up the ice; whenever they did finally retrieve the puck in their own zone, they were too exhausted to do anything but dump and change. Otherwise, they were flubbing up simple passes and spent half the game with the puck in their skates.
Did you see that awful neutral zone scrum that got whistled down? Terrible stuff. The worst part is, I don't really see how they'll be able to compensate for Timonen's absence--without him, I could see the team relying on those awful 2-line passes that always get picked off leading to something awful.
Yes I know that Philly has dropped the first game in the previous two series--but NOT like this. This should have been at least a 6-2 game. If it's any indication, Cros and Malk are going to pick up buckets of points in this series.

Since a long time I say that Malkin is teh best player in the NHL.
Over Ovy and Crosby.
Injurie or not Malkin is just better.
I know Sid is not playing at his full potential but Malkin is still the best player.
Hes unbelievable.
You just cant stop him.
As the biggest fan of Mario ( and Jagr , those were my idols growing up with Patrick Roy ) i'm very happy to be able to watch the first player who's playing a somewhat similar style with the same smooth but fast skating , an incredible talent 1 vs 1 , good vision , big body , good shot , sick at stickhandling in small space , he's a sick player. He's my favorite non-habs.
Hes unstoppable , nobody is going to stop him.
If Pittsburgh win the cup over Detroit give him the Smythe right away.

gawd knows that there are a lot of traditions and superstitious nonsense in hockey. this is due to the luck that can be good or bad for either team in any game.
malkin's 'cherry picked' goal to me is no different to someone getting out of the penalty box just in time to be fed a break away pass.
circumstances and good fortune can conspire to make a favourable situation.
if you resent the goals scored by anyone enjoying an 'out of position break away' then you are not a dumb hater.... if this opinion is reserved for only Geno however.....?

he was safely on side.
he got nailed. got up and laboured out of the zone. he seemed to notice PIT possession of the puck and stopped a few feet on the good side of the blue before receiving the perfect pass from Serge, turning and spanking a good un.
i was kinda surprised he chose to slap a 5 hole.... but then when considering his slo-mo penalty shot, i guess he figured the opposite strategy would be better (even if to hope for a rebound?)
