What happens if both dressed goalie are injured in the same game? I have never seen this happen in my life and I was just wondering what happens if this happens.

The old rules (circa 1960s) was that the team could dress someone associated with the team. There are a few cases of the team trainer stepping into the pipes when the goalies were injured. Team trainers back then sometimes doubled as the warm up guy for practice while the actual goalie suited up.

As to the rules now I'm not 100% sure.

In all seriousness, they play 6 on 5. I dont think a team is going to shoot from the red line either and score, its just disrespectful.

In the NHL rule book rule 8.2 pertains to Goalkeeper Injuries but there are no sub rules dealing with what happens when both goalies get hurt.

In junior A and B you can substitute another player for the goalkeeper with a delay to allow the player to suit up.

In the NHL Rulebook rules 28.4 and 28.5 when a goalie gets ejected he can be replaced by the regular substitute or a player in full goalie equipment.

I would imagine that in a case of double injuries it would be the same.

Wasn't it a Rangers coach that dressed up when his goalie went down and stopped every shot in the 30's or something? I forgot his name

But yeah I guess technically they can dress any players on the bench I wouldn't see why the league would make a fuss about a player who's on the payroll dressed in goalie equipment.

If you can substitute the goalie for an extra player I can't see why you can't put a player in goals.

In the olden days teams had just one goalie and the backup or warm up goalie sat in the stands and dressed if the goalie was hurt. I think that there were even instances when if one team's backup goalie wasn't available they were allowed to use the other team's backup or take any minor league or retired goalie that happened to be at the game.

I've wondered about this in today's game too and have heard the question asked often but never heard a definitive answer. My guess is that they have to dress a player that is active for the game in goalie equipment. If that's the case then all teams must have an emergency goalie picked out like baseball teams have an emergency catcher or football teams have an emergency kicker. Maybe teams do have an off-roster player that would be allowed to go in but I've never heard it mentioned.

Yeah that reminds me of a CFL game last year between montreal and toronto. Duval (kicker) was ejected for fighting (Toronto-Montreal, it never ends lol) and as it is in the CFL like many teams the Al's kicker kicked both sorts of kicks (so the you have a free roster spot) and the game having gone in OT (CFL OT is kinda like a shootout drive from the 35 yard where the other team needs to match or beat the score[if any] until we have a winner]) and Cahoon (Montreal Hero Receiver) kicked a successful field goal while on the other side Toronto's starting kicker missed man that was an awesome game
