Stupid Publicity stunt in my opinion. the first outdoors game was between 2 of the greatest hockey teams in the world with so much history between them. What has Buffalo and Pittsburgh ever done so great except a cup here and there?
The first one was about celebrating how great hockey is, this is a marketing ploy to sell their pet teams. If they really gave a crap about hockey they would of had real teams like Detroit and Chicago or rangers and Boston, but yeah Sid's in Pittsburgh so who cares that Chicago is starving and "Hockey Town" is turning really into "not so Hockey Town"?
How is this "classic" with two team who has the combined equivalent History of a peanut?
This is cheap in my opinion but again bettman is cheap by nature.

The Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins aren't exactly pushover organisations struggling with fan attendance. I don't know how many fans fill up their buildings, but they're definitely not in the dumps.
That, and both teams are actually older than the Edmonton Oilers and have a combined 77 years of existence. I'm not even sure if this is an NHL-made decision. The Sabres and Penguins may of had much to do with this themselves.
Whatever the case be though (if it isn't clear already), this thread will be used to discuss the game, and if you don't want to participate in it, or disagree with it, then that is your choice and I'm sure you'll know what to do there.
You can create a new discussion and make better known your thoughts on why you don't like this event, why you don't feel that it should be taking place, and what should have been done instead.
This one is setting up to be a GDT.

IMO, they are over-advertising Sidney Crosby. If it wasn't for him, the Penguins would not be involved. I agree with you guys that it should be different teams but I'll be happy if it attracts more fans and makes the sport a little more popular...
Their are talks that the Rangers and the Islanders will be playing outdoors at the historic Yankee Stadium next year.

It appears to me that no matter which two teams play, someone will be unhappy with the teams playing.
Also, seeing as it is set in the United States this time, there aren't too many places to put it. You have to keep it North and still cross your fingers hoping for a game. It would just be awkward to have an outdoor winter classic with the Phoenix Coyotes or the Florida Panthers since neither experience much of a winter. Minnesota or Detriot might have been another choice but it's pretty limited beyond that.
Consequently, you have the Penguins and the Sabres (with the NHL leaning on its favorite commercial-boy to rake in the fans).

I see neither these teams to be anywhere near the dynasties the Oils have been in the 80's. Attendance is irrelevant I'm talking about two teams that compare to others such as the original 6 teams have much less substance and is there of more of a publicity stunt to again splatter "Sid the Kid"'s face all over north America.
I don't disagree with the outdoors game I disagree with what it's used
Now I can't do much about you deciding who is allowed to say what and where but in no where I've seen it said that this was a game day thread (not even posted on game day). What is a GDT anyways? I can only talk about how that certain shot bounced off the pipe? What if I'm not happy about who wasn't put in goal or sent to the bleachers for the day? They're not IN the game right? but again it's ABOUT that game, wasn't I talking about that exact game? I mean I'd understand better if I started a rant about the Habs beating Tampa 5-2 Thursday.
But yeah I'm sorry my opinion isn't in line with yours go ahead delete my posts or whatever you feel like policing because it's not in your line of thinking.

I'd like that one, it has much more substance. Obvious bad blood and rivalry. Also both have some prestigious pasts, the Isles with their 4 straight cups making them a dynasty and the Rangers being an Original 6 to name a few things.

Can you show where this happened? I suggested other options to place what looks to be the beginnings of a tirade of sorts against this event.
As I said before, this will be a GDT. If it wasn't made clear before then I guess it must be now.

I agree, this is nothing more then a marketing scam. I wouldn't even be suprised if Bettman tried to fix this game with Crosby winning the game in OT or something dumb like that. At least the last Winter Classic had a meaning to it, it had a the all-time greats play off followed by a regular season game of two NHL franchises who have put together some of the best teams in the history of the NHL.
Crosby playing in a stadium of 40+ grand seats, I understand easily. Im tired of real estate owners in the NHL.
A more appropiate title would be the "Crosby Show" or whatever you would like to call it, a true Winter Classic would come from two teams with a history of each other. Toronto - Detroit, The Battle of New York, Boston and Montreal, anything with a history.
