As a Pens fan of course I love it but do think you guys make a great point. The NBA promotes LBJ but also does a good job getting the word out on some of the other stars. Maybe the NHL wants to get one star known in the US before it tries to hype the others. Like it or not Crosby is the best in the game. He might be the hardest working player in the league. You could make a highlight tape of all the goals that were not scored and it would be better than 99% of the leagues players. Being so good and so hyped also is going to cause hatred against him like the Yankees in baseball.
As for Malkin being better is not even an argument right now. Malkin is having is breakout superstar year this year and IMO is a top 5 forward but still is not as good as Crosby. Malkin in his defense does get stuck playing with Rechi and Staal for most of the season and they just dont finish his beautiful passes.
And Tavares is being held up to juniors in my opinion because he'll make Crosby look like nothing when he gets to the pros hence rendering the whole Crosby marketing pointless.
I'm sick and tired of having that Princess's face everywhere, maybe if he stopped faking so much on the ice it would piss me a little bit less.
Oh and dropping yourself to one knee to shoot the puck isn't the same as being pulled down to the ice then making the shot.
You're wrong about Tavares, and about him making Crosby look liek nothing. I dont think you have ever seen Tavares play. Tavares is a hell of a talent but he will not be better than Crosby. Tavares needs to work on his speed alot and he needs to be put up against harder competition. Crosby produced in the World Juniors for Canada and in the NHL his first 2 years. Tavares didnt really do much in the World Junior Camp and thats why he got cut, but then again his age would have been a factor there. Tavares hasnt really produced alot against strong competition. Crosby has all the talent Tavares does and is better in most areas of the game
Crosby faking on the ice? When has he been on the ice once this year? Last year there were a few times where he was on the ice some looked bad some looked like he was faking, who cares? A butt end of a stick in the stomach sounds and looks pretty painful to me.
Whats wrong with crosby going down on the one knee to score a goal? Most of the time he is doing it to get a longer extension at the puck, or to get a better shot off. If your saying that going on one knee to try and get a better chance at scoring a goal is dumb, then you are not correct.
Im getting sick of people bashing this kid for getting tons of publictity, and all the talent he has. He doesnt do the commercials, how can he help it? He dominate hockey games, has increible vision on the ice, when he does hit he hits hard, he isnt afraid to get in the corners, and he can score anywere from highlight real goals to rebound goals. He may not become as great as gretzky but he will sure as hell be up there

Maybe if the kid would stop arguing EVERY SINGLE CALL. Hell this year I saw him twice talk to the refs and his guys in the box come out and the penalities are reversed. ?He's so good mainly because a defensman in his zone comming withing 5 feet of Crosby will get a penalty so everyone lets him circle at will around the net. He is getting a constant special treatment and it pisses me off
I was going to stay out of this thread. Being a Pens fan, I figured that whatever I said would be taken immediately as homer bias. But I'm out of town in a hotel having a few cocktails, so what the heck.
I listen to lots of people, I read their posts, and I watch alot of hockey. So my opinion is as good as, well it may not be good at all, but I'm allowed to have one.
I group the Crosbyphobes(people who hate Crosby) into three categories.
The first category are the people I feel for. They watch their own team, and have great players on their home teams that don't get the visiblity that Crosby does. These people have a valid gripe. Its like the golf tournament that Joe Blow wins but the headline and picture in the paper reads, "Tiger struggles early, but only loses by 24 strokes". Poor winner, don't even know his name. But this kind of thing is not Crosby's fault. The NHL was looking for a "Next One", and Crosby was annointed. Not by him, but by the people who want to expand the game. Sorry, don't blame him for this, and ya know what, he doesn't want it.
The second category are the comparers. They pick a great ex player(Gretzky, Howe, Hull, Lemieux . . .) that they grew up with and say, "He'll never compare with blah blah". Well first of all, HE is not comparing himself to anyone else, they are. And those types of comparisons never work. Look, no one will ever come close to Wayne's numbers. Not only was he a great player, but he also played in an age where scoring was at a peak. Look at the numbers, there were lots of people in the mid 100's in points, never will happen again, so its not a fair comparison. Players are great IN THEIR OWN ERAS, and that's all you can compare them to. So compare apples to apples, and only compare players to players in their own eras.
The last set of people, well they're just the haters. They hate anything that's not about their own teams(and the ones that will take the most offense to my post). These are the guys that every time that Crosby goes down, they jump up and down and scream "It's a dive It's a dive". Sadly these people probably don't see many of his games. I compare him to Jagr early in his career, very strong legs and so hard to move off the puck. He takes so much abuse in a night, but no one comments on that. Most of these comments started with coaches like Ken Hitchcock trying to get under the Ref's skin. Classic example. Crosby's first game in Philly, and he comes accross the blue line and takes a cross check to the chops from Darrien Hatcher . Goes down on the ice, and Hitchcock is on the bench making goofy diving motions and gets the crowd booing. Meanwhile Crosby's mouth is bloodied and missing the tops of two teeth. Yeah some dive. Simple suggestion for you guys, if you hate him so much, don't watch the Pens games.
Anyway, love him/hate him, he IS one of the best players to play the game, sorry Crosbyphobes. Like all the great players, just watch and enjoy, be a fan of the game.

You make a great valid point here. I totally agree.
But in all fairness lets say the point you make helps crosby get 15 more points a year.
Would you agree the special treatment helps his numbers a tad?

Yeah, I have to agree in a way. It's not a big thing to me, but I do think Ovechkin should be getting more publicity if anything as he is just as talented, plus exciting as hell to watch. He really bangs the others around too.

You must not like any player in the league as I see tons of players dive all over the ice.
If you watch him play every game you will see that the refs let a lot go as some nights he has the ability to draw 6+ penalties.
