NHL players to use heated blades

NHL players to use heated blades
The Canadian Press

A select handful of NHL players are about to begin using heated skate blades produced by a Verdun, Que., company to enhance performance.
Thermablades use a rechargeable battery and a microprocessor within each skate blade to maintain a temperature of 5 C. The warm blade increases the thickness of the water layer between the blade and the ice surface, and the company says its tests have shown this reduces gliding friction and starting resistance for skaters.

This is quite neat, I wonder how it will take off with the NHL players?
At $400.00 a pop, that's retail price in Canadian dollars, I wonder how many adult Canadians will use them at this point.

It's not in the stick, it's in the skates.

NHL Players Testing Out Heated Skates....
Thermablades, developed by Tory Weber, are heated to five degrees Celsius, which cuts down friction between the skate and the ice by increasing the layer of water between the two. Result: Players go faster, easier. Right now, barely 10 players are set to don the fancy footwear next month, but the idea, Wayne Gretzky himself thinks they're "going to revolutionize hockey."

They look like a great idea. Should save players knees from the strain as well as their backs. Gretzky was impressed when he tried them this past summer. A friend of mine met with the designer and this has been a long road (over 5 years of work) but it should all pay off soon!
