Phish's thread in the Colorado forum got me thinking, which rivalry is bigger for the Devils? The Rangers or the Flyers? In their haydays, they were two of the biggest rivalries in the NHL, and with the way things have gone this season, both rivalries are as healthy as ever.
On the devils fans point of view it might be even in terms of rival interest. i think having the rangers of the past 7 seasons kinda hurt and brought more interest to the Flyers vs Devils match ups.
It just goes to show you what obscurity the Devils travel in. I would not have thought they would have a rivalry with anybody.
:haha:
I guess you have to have an interest in the team to understand either rivalry. Personally, I think the entire Atlantic can be a war zone with all the hatred that flows between the 5 teams involved. You've got Rangers/Islanders, Devils/Rangers, Devils/Flyers, Flyers/Rangers...and even games involving the Pens can get heated at times. With even more games in the division, I think it'll only get better.
I went with the Flyers, mainly because the Atlantic Division title has pretty much been a two horse race the last 7-8 years between the Devils and Flyers. This year of course the Rangers look like they'll take the division (barring a complete collapse), so that messes it up a bit. The Devils/Rangers rivalry was really more or a one way beatdown for several years there, with the Devils completely owning them. It's actually weird to see the Rangers finally winning this year.

Yes I would agree with that. It's hard to see anyone getting excited about playing NJ, they can't even attract a building full of fans, playing well or otherwise.
I know there is a great rivalry between the Islanders and Rangers, Flames and Oilers, Canadiens and Leafs etc etc. But a rivalry with NJ? Just can't see it.

Out of a few teams that scare me the Devils are one of them come playoff time. If the rangers get them it should bring back some of the lost past of this rival matchup.

Rangers or Flyers? Pshaw! When was the last time NY or Philly topped you guys in the Cup Finals? Obviously you guys only have one real rivalry, sorry it's so lopsided.:evilgreen
as much as i hate both teams, i love the rags as a hockey fan, so it would be great to see the devils play them, to watch jagr get shut out, to watch lundqvist and weekes, to watch brodeur rob jagr, and on and on. i like watching the rags play
on the other hand, my hatred for the phailures runs free, so, playing them in a series will only make my blood boil more
the rangers are probably better for tehd evils, because they play a less physical game(even if they do play physical, janssen can go beat up hollweg), which, in the end, is better for the devils, because going up against guys like brashear game after game may have horrible consequences. plus, i think that the devils have a better confidecnce playing the rags than they do when playing the phailures

nhldave, you really don't know what CAA is like when the Devils/Rangers play. The house is divided and makes for probably the best atmosphere any rivalry can offer in the NHL. When you've got 19040 fans yelling both ways, it gets pretty intense I think the one downfall of the Newark Arena if it actually does raise attendence is that this split ratio will go down, but it will still be a great atmosphere.
But the past years, been Philly.
This year though, Rangers are kicking it back up. It's pretty much an even three way battle between all three teams.
