Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire after 17 seasons in the NFL. Favre's agent reportedly told ESPN the future Hall of Famer informed the Packers of his decision on Monday night.
''I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired,'' Favre told ESPN. ''If I felt like coming back - and Deanna (Favre's wife) and I talked about this - the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl."
look, i like Brett, i really do. He was a fun guy to watch. He was really somthin. But i honestly don't think he was that he was top-5 or i even struggle with putting him top 10 all time. He gambled too much, had way too good a recieving corpse and all that. I'm sick of hearing how he was one of the "greatest all time". He was good. get over it. The funny part was his last pass, was to a member of the New York Giants! Way to end on a good note Brett! I'm sure there are guys out there that caught their first interception off you that are really upset right now. lol.
oh, and by the way, we deffinitley won't here of him comming back right? cause he's done. He's too tired to play the game guys. way too tired. give me a break. By 2010 season he'll be "comming out of retirement" and i'll be standing here saying "i told you so."

I will miss Brett. However, it is not like we could not see this coming- he has been considering this for the past few off seasons now. Good luck to him in the future.

Did you even think before typing up this post? You struggle putting Brett Favre in the top 10 QBs of all time? Did you watch him play at all, or are you judging this on his last 3 seasons of play, excluding this past season where he was lights out. I guess being the only 3 time MVP in NFL history is a meaningless accomplishment, as well as holding the all time TD, passing yards, completions, and attempts records and shattering the consecutive starts record. Brett Favre is easily a top 5 QB of all-time, he's my #1, but I could see how some people could put Montana in front of him, or make the argument for a couple others, but no way does he drop below #5. As for his receiving "corpse" being "way too good", I'd like to know if he ever had a WR better than Jerry Rice, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Michael Irvin, Rod Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Marvin Harrison, Raymond Berry, etc.? Or even how about having a running game? When did Brett Favre even have the support of other great QBs with the performances of a Roger Craig, Emmitt Smith, Franco Harris, or Terrell Davis? The answer is he didn't. Brett Favre had a mediocre run game of Dorsey Levens and one great year of Ahman Green and his all-star wideouts included Sterling Sharpe at the end of his career and that's it. Any WR who has made he Pro Bowl playing with Brett Favre is simply because he was playing with Brett Favre and he was good enough to turn a 40 catch, 600 yard WR into a 75 catch, 1200 yard receiver. Brett Favre was an absolute monster at QB an there were none greater.
I would suggest you stick to hockey and leave football to the ones who study, watch, and understand the game.
What a player! It got me when he got all choked up at his retirement speech!
Just think, you might get to witness it again!
With Favre contemplating a return to the NFL I thought I'd bump this thread. I know a couple fellow Vikings fans I work with have been all excited the last couple days, hoping that Favre will join the dark side and wear the purple this year. Myself, I'm a bit undecided as to how I should feel. On the one hand I've disliked Favre because he has been the Green Bay Packers for years, but on the other hand he's definitely an upgrade over anything the Vikings already have. All I know is it would be strange as hell to see a Favre jersey in Vikings colors, not that it'll happen...
