Predators battle Devils, shoot for Metro area sweep
(Sports Network) - The Nashville Predators will aim for their fourth straight victory when they battle the New Jersey Devils this evening at Continental Airlines Arena.
The Predators are in the midst of a three-game tour of the New York metro area and have already posted wins over the Islanders and the Rangers. They beat the Blueshirts on Wednesday evening, as Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves and Scott Nichol had a goal and an assist to lead Nashville over New York, 3-0, at Madison Square Garden.
Vokoun recorded his first shutout of the season and 17th of his career. The goaltender has been red-hot during the Predators' current three-game winning streak, stopping 93 of the 95 shots he has faced. On Monday, Nashville beat the Islanders 2-1 in a shootout. The two goals allowed over the streak is a far cry from the 17 yielded by the club over the first three games of the season.
Jason Arnott and Jerred Smithson also scored for Nashville, which evened its record for the season at 3-3.
Meanwhile, the Devils are coming off Wednesday's win in Pittsburgh. Martin Brodeur became just the third goaltender in history to win 450 games as New Jersey beat the Penguins, 2-1, at Mellon Arena. With the victory, the Devils spoiled the debut of Penguins' rookie phenom Evgeni Malkin.
