Nashville Predators exercise option on forward David Legwand

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CP) - The Nashville Predators have exercised their option on forward David Legwand for next season, picking up the one-year extension on a contract signed last year.
Terms of deal were not disclosed Tuesday.
The six-foot-two, 190-pound centre from Detroit had a career-high 18 goals last season and finished fourth on the team with 47 points. He appeared in all 82 games.
Legwand was the second overall pick by the Predators in the 1998 entry draft.
GM David Poile also said the club has made qualifying offers to restricted free agents: Jonas Andersson, Mark Eaton, Martin Erat, Vernon Fiddler, Brian Finley, Simon Gamache, Adam Hall, Scott Hartnell, Darren Haydar, Shane Hnidy, Andrew Hutchinson, Vladimir Orszagh, Konstantin Panov, Kirill Safronov, Wyatt Smith, Steve Sullivan, Tomas Vokoun and Marek Zidlicky.
"Our priority this off-season is signing our group of young talent that helped the Predators reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time this past season," Poile said on the team's website. "With our nucleus in place, a young roster and few long-term commitments, the Predators are well-positioned to go forward competitively in whatever system is in place for next season and beyond."
The team did not make qualifying offers to defenceman Jamie Allison, centre Greg Classen and winger Jeremy Stevenson, making them free agents as of Thursday.
Other Preds becoming unrestricted free agents Thursday are Brad Bombardir, Wade Flaherty, Tony Hrkac, Andreas Johansson, Rem Murray, Jason York and Sergei Zholtok.
The team also declined to exercise team options for 2004-05 on the contracts of goaltender Jan Lasak and defencemen Curtis Murphy and Robert Schnabel.
