The Predators are close to agreement on a two-year, $6 million contract extension with goalie Chris Mason.

Under the NHL’s new collective bargaining agreement rules, Mason can’t sign a contract extension until July 1.

But the two sides have done plenty of negotiating and are on the verge of a new deal, according to Mason’s agent, Tom Laidlaw.
