Default Student in USA + hockey

Hey, I didn't know where to put this thread so I left it here... But I wonder; Next year I will maybe move to the US for a year to study. I become 18 years in september 30. that year. Is it possible to start with hockey then? To practice with a team, become better and become better so I can keep playing here in Norway?

I quitted hockey 3 years ago when I was about 13 years or so and I'm now 16. This winter I tried to play again with a team which is 2 years younger than me and that worked out well. The only things that I need to work on is my shooting skills and defender skills... Also my physics.

Is it possible to join practices with people on my own age or younger when I'm 18 years old?

I'll maybe sign up for summerpractices and join a hockeyteam here in winter if possible, but if there's no ways to play in USA for me, it kind of sucks, because I don't know what I want to do later, so to become a hockeyplayer is okay for me with okay payments.

Please help me out.
I'm 16 years old now, come from Norway, become 18 when I move to the USA for 1 year to study.

No no no! What I am saying is that I want to start with hockey again that year I'm going to the US to study. I'm asking if I can start with hockey again while being in the US while studying.

I'm in norway, going to the US for one year and while being in the US I want to play hockey as something I do while I'm doing the studying. Understand? Just become better and play on a team, so I can keep playing when I come back. And with the payment I mean that when I come back to Norway, I want to play hockey, since I don't know what I want to do later as a job, so if I just could get a job as an electrician, that's okay.

So my question for you guys is; is it possible for me to play while I'm in the US? Join a team to practice with? I'm not expecting to become a NHL player while being there!

It depends on where in the US you're going. If you're headed to one of the States in the Northern US (Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, New York, etc etc), then you've got a very good chance to find a men's recreational league. You could possibly join a team that way. It's definitely possible to find a team willing to take you, although in Southern States, it might be harder to find a league.

As for your age and younger though, you might have a problem with that. Some players might be your age and in the same league, but for the most part, it's whoever signed up to a team, so they could be any age really.

If you are planning on college you could play on some geat developmetnal teams but they are hard to get on if you havent been recruited yet. Places like Harvard, or Yale or Vermount have had friutful prospects without as much of the recruiting talent of Minnesota or Michigan universities.

If you are in high school, the USHSHL (think is the the league name United STates Highschool Hockey League) has been great in bring up some very talented american prospects with another one this season planning to go top ten in the draft for the second time in three years. So there is lots you can do if wish to develop into a pro, but if thats not the avenue you wish to take then going to school and playing in a beer league is always an opinion, my buddy and I play with the local Firemen, which normally ends in drunken pyromania and anonymous bruises.

I'm not planning to become a pro while in the states. Just play and become a better player so I can keep playing here in Norway. Here it is different kinds of teams, but the best we have is A-teams in a league (trust me, you don't have to be a star to play there, but you need some skills).

Just wanna play ordinary hockey while in the states. No huge or serious leagues, but practice with a team which actually also can open some doors for me if I become really good at it.

Thanks for helping me.

Keep on posting if you know anything more guys!

Cool Florida has leagues

It does depend where in the United States you are planning to school in. From Alaska to Florida you will find ice rinks many of which have leagues or just drop in games. Here in North Central Florida a person must travel to either Jacksonville (NE FL) or Orlando and Tampa (Central FL). Miami also has rinks.
