2 Things, not that it matters to you Habs fans, but...
Detroit split their Training Camp roster (post cuts and Junior releases) into two teams, labeled Howe and Lindsay. Team Howe played Team Lindsay in the Red/White game to conclude training camp, then the winner (Team Howe) played against Montreal. Team Lindsay is slated for the next game. I expect there to be more rest for the regulars (they'll only play 4 of the 9 pre-season games, probably), but they have to play sometime. Its about chemistry and evaluation in the preseason, not the opposition. Detroit basically played two of their 4 lines last night, and their top defensive pairing.
Second, Kopecky's hit was neither head-hunting, taking advantage, attempting to juice the momentum or anything else. It was a hockey play, and Carle made a mistake. This was not a Kronwall / Stevens special where you've got train A and train B on a collision course. Kopecky hit him from the side at center ice with both players moving basically in the same direction. I feel bad for Carle, but I'm not sure Kopecky should have done a whole lot differently. It is a contact sport, no?
By the way, I believe Carle returned to the team and left with them on the bus, on his own power.
