MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that 30 prospects will participate in the team’s annual development camp from July 7-12, at the Centre Sportif Candiac – Les 2 Glaces (10 Radisson, Candiac), on the South Shore of Montreal.

The Canadiens prospects will first take to the ice on Monday, July 7th, at 2:30 p.m. The development camp consists of on-ice sessions every morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the exception of Tuesday, July 8th when on-ice testings will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Off-ice conditioning sessions are also scheduled on a daily basis.

The group also includes first round picks Ryan McDonagh, Max Pacioretty and David Fischer, defensemen Mathieu Carle, PK Subban and Yannick Weber, as well as forwards Benjamin Maxwell and Olivier Fortier.

Many believe that Mathieu Carle and Pavol Valentenko will be fighting for a spot on our blue line next season. We finally have some depth, some good prospects at every position. Yeah!

A good read by Pat Hickey:

Top pick Kristo, joins other Tricolore hopefuls in Candiac for annual CH development camp

The Canadiens will save some money at their annual development camp, which opens Monday at the Centre Sportif Candiac.

At least a dozen players attend universities in the United States or plan to in the near future.

Under NCAA regulations, these players are required to pay their expenses to and from the camp, and while they are in Montreal.

Most of the players are prospects who are years away from a career in the National Hockey League, but there are a handful of players who saw action with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League this past season.

General manager Bob Gainey said he was interested in seeing two of these players for the first time.

"We signed Brock Trotter (from the University of Denver) midway through the season and we added J.T. Wyman after he finished school, and this is a chance for me to get a good look at these players," Gainey said before the draft last month.

The list of collegians includes first-round draft choices David Fischer (Minnesota), Ryan McDonagh (Wisconsin) and Max Pacioretty (Michigan).

The Canadiens' top choice in this year's draft, second-rounder Danny Kristo, will be on hand. He'll play for Omaha in the United States Hockey League next season before enrolling at the University of North Dakota in 2009.

Five players will be on tryouts and the group includes three Quebecers, as well as brothers Jon Paul and Michael Testwuide, who are from team owner George Gillett's Vail, Colo., hometown. Jon Paul is a defenceman at the University of Denver and Mike is a forward at Colorado College.

Also on tap are two defence prospects who clashed at this year's Memorial Cup - P.K. Subban from the Belleville Bulls and Yannick Weber from the Kitchener Rangers.

The first on-ice sessions will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30. The on-ice sessions will be held in the morning for the remaining five days of the camp.
