Default Alex Tanguay...

Alex Tanguay by numbers

So what kind of impact do you think Tanguay will have on the Canadiens next season?

His numbers were not that impressive playing beside Iginla, so I have to admit I´m not expecting a lot of impact. Not in a decisive way, I mean.

(but I do hope he surprises me)

But if Sundin or any other player of his caliber arrives, then it´s a totally different story.

His numbers in Calgary aren't as good as they were in Colorado, but when I look at the style of play of both teams, Colorado's style is much closer to ours than the Flames. Calgary is a dump and chase, physical team and that's definitely not Tanguay's style. He's a puck carrier, a skater who likes to keep possession of the puck when entering the zone, which is the style we play in Montreal. I think that he'll fit quite well with us.

I will admit having a little concern not due to Tanguay, but more to the bad experience we had the last time we picked up that type of player (see Samsonov). The difference is that Tanguay is playing at home and will be in shape while putting the effort, which is what sank Sammy back then.

Honestly I have high hopes when it comes to Tanguay. I'll go out on a limb and say approximately 70 points. I think he'll bounce back and forth between 1st and 2nd line as well as 1st and 2nd powerplay unit. His is a speed game that relies on quickness and puckhandling....precisely what much of the team does already. A nice fit on the surface. Regardless.....he's gotta be an improvement over Ryder right?

So who are we getting to replace Streit?

McCabe?

Seriously, I think that you'll see either Tanguay or Sergei Kostitsyn out there at the point.
