Depth...What depth??
I'm as big of habs fan as there gets, but if we're being honest to eachother here, we lack a serious amount of depth in our line-up. When we have players like Mark Streit and Bryan Smolinski on our first line how can you say that the Habs have a sufficient amount of talent to be considered a contender in the Eastern Conference
Since the beginning of the Gainey-Timmins era we have been so proud as we believe the depth we have is unbelievable. Truth be told however we lack a serious amount of depth.
Our defense has improved but with Bouillon, Brisebois, Georges, and Streit rotating in the 5-6 slot, we are still considered a below than average defensive team. On any other team those four would not be able to crack the starting line up, on the other hand on our team they play occasionally first line on offense,PP and PK.
Then there's Dandenault, lie to yourself if you must but he wouldn't crack another NHL line-up. But because he is a francophone playing in Montreal he gets a shot with Saku and Higgy on the first line.
We need two more third liners and a first line winger to compete with the likes of Ottawa and Detroit.
That however is easier said then done...
