Default Montreal gets huge tv deal

I cant believe no one posted here, but apparently montreal picked up a huge tv contract making them the highest team paid on tv, more than the Leafs with RDS, RDS president admitted that they will lose alot money off this deal, but wont say what are the figures, but the only reason RDS paid alot to retain the rights of the Habs its to have 100% full ownership of the Canadiens since Radio Canada (CBC in french) was looking to negotiate a deal , but that certainly went down the drain with RDS's offer.

Of course this will boost the Habs financially, Pierre Boivin (the team's president) even said, they could be able to buy a superstar or two with that kind of money (doubt it tho, as everyone in the league is affraid to play in Montreal, Daniel Briere is the living proof).

How is it the taxes, when Toronto pays also alot of taxes and that doesnt stop them from going there, maybe not as high as Montreal, but still enough for a greedy player to say no.

It is significantly lower in Ontario than Quebec, but regardless... No Canadian team signed any of the top talent this year. The closest was Souray in Edmonton, and Alberta has by far the lowest taxes in Canada.

I read this in the newspaper on why Montreal has the toughest in the league to sign players despite being the team that generates the most revenue in the league.

They attributed to:
1) High Taxes as mentionned
2) The french language (which keeps haunting Saku Koivu for example since he's been named captain, ask also Mike Keane who had it tough too with the media simply because he couldnt speak french)
3) The Pressure from the media and especially the fans who criticize anything, I woulndt want to be the general manager in Montreal thats for sure, I doubt Toronto or any other city have worse critics than the Montreal fan themselves (Most probably due to the fact that they were spoiled groing up with stanley cup championships and expect the samething right now). The fans have managed to kick out of the city some big names (Carbonneau, Roy (with the help of Mario Tremblay), Brisebois, Geoffrion, Lafleur, Theodore, Ribeiro...Heck even Maurice Richard was booed in the last couple of seasons by the fans due to the fact that he was declining in health.
4) The Weather (same can be said for the rest of the country, espeically Edmonton who lost Pronger and Nylander simply because their wives think our winters are like Siberia)
5) The players, I understand why Shanahan chose New York over Montreal last year, he figured "I have a chance to play with Jaromir Jagr or Radek Bonk...tough choice"
