MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Canadiens will put out-of-favour right-winger Donald Audette on waivers Monday, says a team spokesman.
Audette did not practise with the team Friday and will not join the Canadiens for their three-game road trip to Carolina, Atlanta and Dallas, Montreal spokesman Dominick Saillant said Friday.
Audette will be put on waivers Monday and will have his situation re-evaluated Wednesday if no team has picked him up.
"He's had some difficult periods and he realizes it," Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey said. "His game hasn't been what he would like it to be. He thinks he is still capable of playing.
"If he isn't picked up, we have the possibility of loaning him to a team in the American League, whether it's to our Hamilton farm team or to another team."
Audette has been a healthy scratch the last three games.
Gainey also announced on Friday that the Canadiens have recalled forward Jason Ward from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Ward played in 12 games with the Canadiens this season, recording two points. He missed 19 games after suffering a broken ankle during a Nov. 1 game against the New York Rangers.
Ward was sent to Hamilton for conditioning on Dec. 16. In two games with the Bulldogs, he had three assists and 17 penalty minutes.

Well, is it a good move or bad move on the part of the Habs? Will Audette be picked up? If so, would that be a good thing for the Habs?

But we're prepared for all the bumps and pratfalls and potholes in the road ahead. I'm prepared for it anyway, or I wouldn't have come." - Ron Wilson, Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
