Habs sign Markov

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - The Montreal Canadiens re-signed coveted rearguard Andrei Markov on Tuesday.
Markov, 24, inked a two-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
"I think he'll fill a steady and valuable role in the defensive group," Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey said. "We need to continue to support him and work with him."
Markov blossomed into an elite NHL blueliner last season, one in which he made $700,000 US.
The Russian native posted 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points with 34 penalty minutes in 79 games -- all career highs.
