Legendary Montreal Canadiens General Manager Sam Pollock has passed away in Toronto, he was 81 years old.

Pollock, who was nicknamed the "Godfather of Hockey", took over the position of Canadiens General Manager in 1963. Over the next 14 years the Canadiens would capture nine Stanley Cups.

He was also the Chairman and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays between 1995-2000.
