Montreal Canadiens GM Bob Gainey has indicated that signing impending unrestricted free agent defenseman Sheldon Souray a top priority, reports La Presse Canadienne.

Souray will become an UFA July 1 and if he hits the open market, he'll be the most coveted defenseman of his free agent class.

"We still have time to sign Sheldon," Gainey told La PC, the French Canadian Press. "Until the [start of free agency], he is still our property."
