Ian Thorpe the swimming sensation of 8 years ago from Australia and superstar at the 2000 Olympics, and Kim Clisters from Belgium are retiring from their respective sports (swimming and pro tennis).

While Kim wants to start a family (and apparently you can't do this playing tennis) and nurse her injuries, Ian is just bored. he keeps breaking records and he's tired of it. (must be nice).

I agree The Thorpedo was a giant in his sport. This will open more opportunities for American Michael Phelps(From Maryland) to become the dominate person in the sport. As for Kim Clijsters she has put up great wins in her career and was consistently in the Top 5 for many years. I really think with all the injuries she has had recently it is a great idea to step away and begin her family. Both will be missed alot in their sports.
