okay; I don't watch Golf, but apparently this is some big deal + the europeans seem to always win (kinda like the American League; if they are down, they win, if they win; they slaughter them).
the queston needs to be asked though; why aren't Canadians invited in this ryder cup thingabo?

I think it's only really a big deal because it wasn't until recently (the last couple years) the US has been beaten. Before that, I'm pretty sure they were dominant.
The problem with putting Canadians in the this tournament is who do you put us with? We're not European and it would ruin the "Us against the world" thing the U.S. has going. Not to mention, that after Weir, Ames and maybe Leggat, we don't have many good golfers.
Correct me if I'm wrong. My golf knowledge is like that of soccer and basketball. It's like a commercial between hockey highlights.
Add that meaningless event to list of other things UK'ers are proud of, such as the game of Cricket and swimming the English Channel.

Because this tournament format is 90 years old between the American's and Brits/Irish (expanded to all of Europe sometime after the tournaments inauguration). And frankly, with the amount of American players on the PGA and pro tours they don't need any other countries to join. Plus, it's just plain tradition.

Actually it's quite the opposite. This event is only held every 2 years and for roughly the past two decades the Europeans have dominated play. Now before that it was a different story, it was all US before that. Aside from their stellar comeback in 1999, the US have had little to cheer about in the Ryder Cup as they hadn't won it since 1993 before that.

The 1999 and 1993 thing just don't seem to add up to me if the tourny is held every 2 years... should it not be an even number, like 2000, if its 2006 now? So.... 2006, 2004, 2002, 2000--- know what I mean? Or is there some kind of blip in the frequency in which the tourny was held?
Anyway, I golf, but I don't really watch much golf. Only bits of the majors that are part of the grand slam thingus.

The 2001 edition was delayed till 2002 because of 9-11, hence now making it played on even years
