Kearney, Nebraska- Jesse Martin and Calle Ridderwall both converted penalty shots as the host Tri-City Storm defeated the RoughRiders 4-3 in a shootout Friday night.
Only Pat Cannone converted in the shootout for the Riders after Mike Seidel scored two goals to erase a 3-1 Tri-City lead and help the Riders to one point.
Seidel first snapped the puck home from the right wing circle to trim the deficit to 3-2 at 13:12 of the second period.
The Riders were on the power play when Seidel tied the game at three by burying a cross-crease pass from Doug Jones with 5:46 left in regulation.
The Riders were forced to come from behind after the Storm ripped off three straight goals in the first and second periods.
Jesse Martin scored a pair of rebound goals just over four minutes apart in the first period to turn a 1-0 Rider lead into a 2-1 Storm advantage.
Calle Ridderwall's power play goal at 8:31 of the second period extend the Tri-City lead to two goals.
The Storm broke loose only after Aaron Bogosian turned a Jacob Cepis centering pass into the game's only goal at 4:11 of the first period.
The Lancers broke a two-game losing streak with a solid effort in a 4-1 victory over the Indiana Ice on Friday, December 15th at the Mid America Center. With the victory, the Lancers improved their record to 10-11-2, while the Ice dropped to 11-8-2 with the loss.
Scoring goals for the Lancers in this one were Robby Dee, Patrick Schafer, Corey Toy and Zac MacVoy.
Following a scoreless first period, Dee opened the scoring for the Lancers with his eighth goal of the year at the 16:41 mark of the second period, assisted by Mark Olver and Schafer.
In the third period, Schafer scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 1:55 mark, unassisted for a 2-0 lead. The score from the Schafer was his fifth of the campaign. Corey Toy made the score 3-0, Lancers, when his unassisted drive from the right point went past the Indiana goaltender at 12:33 for his second goal of the year. Following an Indiana goal nearly four minutes later, the Ice pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker while one man short on a Lancer power play, when MacVoy scored an empty-net, power play goal, unassisted, with 10 seconds remaining in the game for the final 4-1 score. The goal was MacVoy's fifth of the season.
Shots on goal for the game were 38-20 in favor of the Lancers, with 15 shots on goal coming in the third period of play. Omaha was 1-for-7 on the power play, while Indiana failed to score in six power play chances. The Lancers took eight penalties for 19 minutes, while Indiana was whistled down nine times for 21 minutes.
Drew Palmisano won his first game in net as a Lancer, and his first win since claiming Ohio's season-opening victory over Waterloo, with a 34 save performance. Palmisano's overall record improved to 2-6-3. Cody Reichard was tagged with the loss after a 34 save performance for Indiana.
The weekend series and the pre-Christmas portion of the Lancers' regular season schedule will conclude on Saturday, December 16th, when the teams meet again at the Mid America Center, beginning at 7 PM. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the MAC Box Office.
Redmann Saves 39, Junior Blue Jackets Score 2-1 Victory
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets battled to a 2-1 victory over the Lincoln Stars at Nationwide Arena Saturday. Goaltender Troy Redmann made 39 saves to secure the win for the home team.
Defenseman John Ryder scored with a little more than 14 minutes remaining to give the Junior Blue Jackets (2-17-5, 9 pts.) their second lead of the game. Forwards Charles Brockett and Derek Roehl were credited with assists on the play. Ohio held the lead behind the play of Redmann, who stopped 16 shots in the final frame and collected his first win of the season.
Forward Sean McCauley scored Ohio's first goal on a rebound, in the opening period, after defenseman Nolan Ryan took a shot from the right point. For McCauley, it is his second straight game with a goal and gives him 11 points, tying him for the team lead.
The Stars (13-8-1, 27 pts.) had 40 shots on goal, but only scored once, in second period to tie the game at one apiece. Defenseman Kyle Follmer was the only player to beat Redmann with a shot, tallying at the 5:05 mark of the second.
The Junior Blue Jackets play host to the Lincoln Stars Sunday, game time is set for 6 p.m., before going on a 12-day break. The team resumes play Dec. 29 at Chicago, when they face the Steel for the first time this season.

On the strength of a four goal second period, the Waterloo Black Hawks rallied by the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-3 Saturday.
Des Moines led 2-0 after 20 minutes on two goals by Richard Purslow. Josh Turnbull started the comeback early in the second with his fifth goal of the season against Des Moines on a long shot from the point. Isak Tranvik tied the game and Tim Gilbert put the Hawks ahead, midway through the second, both set up by Kyle Reeds. During a five-on-three powerplay, Matt Arhontas fired in a one-timer that proved to be the game winner.
Des Moines scored at 2:10 of the third to cut Waterloo's lead to one, but Reeds, Brett Barta, and Craig Smith would put pucks in before the final buzzer.
The Hawks are off until after Christmas, returning to take on the Indiana Ice in Indianapolis on December 29th. The next Black Hawks home game is New Years' Eve against the rival Cedar Rapids Rough Riders.
The Lancers head into the Christmas break with a two-game winning streak after their second straight 4-1 victory over the Indiana Ice on Saturday, December 16th at the Mid America Center.
Four separate players again produced a balanced scoring effort, led by the three-point contribution of Mark Olver and the two-point performances of Patrick Schafer and Adam Comrie. Ben Arnt also scored for the Lancers in the victory.
Arnt opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 8:35 of the second period, assisted by Olver for a 1-0 Lancer lead. Olver followed with his seventh tally of the year, assisted by Schafer and Comrie at 9:15 of the middle frame for a 2-0 edge. However, Jake Skjodt scored Indiana's only goal of the night on the power play at 17:03 of the third period for a 2-1 Lancer advantage at the second intermission.
In the third period, Omaha broke the contest open when Comrie scored on the power play, assisted by Olver at 16:21 of the frame. It was Comrie's seventh goal overall in the USHL this season and first with the Lancers since coming from Ohio earlier in the week. Schafer finished the night with his sixth goal of the year, an empty-netter, with 27 seconds remaining in the contest.
The Lancers out shot the Ice for the second straight night, this time by a 34-26 margin. Each team scored once on the power play in seven opportunities and the Lancers took 10 penalties for 23 minutes.
Goaltender Drew Palmisano won his second straight game for the Lancers since coming from Ohio with a 25-save performance.
Following the Christmas holiday, the Lancers will return to action on December 29th with another battle at divisional rival Des Moines. The teams will have a rematch at the Mid America Center the following night on the 30th, then Lincoln comes to the MAC for a New Year's Eve encounter.

Martin broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal at 14:25 of the second period. Martin steered a Calle Ridderwall (one goal, one assist) feed home from the doorstep to give the Storm a lead it would not relinquish.
Martin struck again just 1:18 into the third period, snapping the puck between the pads of Rider goaltender Richard Bachman (34 saves) to make it 3-1.
Just over two minutes later, Justin Van Guilder's shorthanded goal stretched the lead to 4-1. Van Guilder cut into the slot and fired the puck in under the cross bar for what was the Storm's fourth straight goal.
The four-goal run started at 5:40 of the first period when Ridderwall buried a Martin centering pass with the Storm on the power play.
Ridderwall's goal tied the game at one just one minute and 44 seconds after Aaron Bogosian scored what would prove to be the Riders' only goal of the night from close range.
Sioux City, Iowa- Anthony Maiani and Dustin Gazely both scored one goal and picked up one assist and Jerry Kuhn made 26 saves as the host Sioux City Musketeers shut out the RoughRiders 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
Maiani gave the Musketeers a 1-0 lead at 5:21 of the first period with a wrist shot from the left point.
The Muskies nursed the one goal advantage until Gazely snapped the puck home from the slot with 1:09 left in the second period.
Third period goals from Alex Tuckerman and Phil DeSimone (on the power play) put the Riders away.
Des Moines, Iowa --- The Des Moines Buccaneers head coach and general manager Regg Simon announced today that defenseman Ben Rosen has verbally committed to Brown University of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) for 2008.
Rosen, a native of Syosset, New York came to Des Moines after spending last season in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Boston Junior Bruins. As a defenseman for the Buccaneers, he has registered 2 assists and has a plus/minus rating of +3 in 13 games played.
"Ben will be playing for a great coaching staff and program, as well as attending one of the finest universities in the world," said Simon. "He's going to be getting the best of both worlds by being a Division I college athlete while earning a very prestigious degree."
Brown currently sports an overall record of 6 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties. In ECACHL play, they have a 3-3-1 record, which puts them in a tie for seventh place. However, they sit only three points out of third and four points out in fourth in the league standings.
Rosen is the eleventh Buccaneer to commit to a Division I hockey program this season. Players with previous college commitments are Jeff Petry (Michigan State), Jimmy Martin (Yale), Aaron Palushaj (Michigan), Rich Purslow (Nebraska-Omaha), Ben Ryan (Notre Dame), Matt Read (Bemidji State), Travis Paeth (Western Michigan), Shane Sims (Ohio State), Austin Handley (Michigan State) and Matt Dalton (Bemidji State).
Junior Blue Jackets acquire Zac MacVoy and Andy Taranto
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets acquired Zac MacVoy from the Omaha Lancers in exchange for defenseman Adam Comrie, as well as obtaining Andy Taranto as part of the Drew Palmisano-Dennis Urban trade from last week, General Manager Don Harkins announced today.
"Andy has good size and speed and plays with an edge," said Harkins. "MacVoy is a power forward who has good size and a scoring touch. I talked to both players the other night on the phone and they are excited to come in and help our team after the Christmas break."
MacVoy (6-2, 205, Livonia, Mich.) comes to the Junior Blue Jackets after recording 5-7-12 with 40 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Lancers this season. He played two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP) and then played 20 games at the University of Michigan during the 2005-06 season, tallying 1-3-4 with one power-play goal and 10 penalty minutes. He has committed to play at Lake Superior State University next season.
Taranto (6-0, 205, Downers Grove, Ill.) has recorded two assists in 22 games with Omaha this season and was a teammate of Ohio defenseman Nolan Ryan last season, when the two played for the Chicago Chill Midget Major.
Both players are expected to join the team over the holiday break and be available Dec. 29 at Chicago, when the Junior Blue Jackets resume play against the Steel.
