Default Gaborik scores 5 goals in rout of Rangers

Marian Gaborik posted the NHL's first five-goal game in a decade, lifting the Minnesota Wild to a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

Gaborik's outburst was the biggest in the league since Sergei Fedorov scored five for Detroit on Dec. 26, 1996, in an overtime game against Washington. Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux was the last to net five in regulation, pulling off the feat on March 26, 1996 versus St. Louis.

Gaborik had a goal in the first period, two on power plays in the second, and found the net twice more in the third to set the team record for tallies in a game. No Wild player had ever had four goals in a game.

With an assist, Gaborik tied his career high with six points. That was established on Oct. 26, 2002, at Phoenix. It was his best offensive game since he scored three goals and helped set up another on April 9, 2006, at Colorado.

This one got him carried off the ice by teammates Sean Hill and Keith Carney.

Pavol Demitra, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Aaron Voros added two points apiece for Minnesota, which extended its winning streak to four games.

Michal Rozsival, Martin Straka and Nigel Dawes scored for New York, which fell to 2-5-1 in its last eight.

Saw the replays on the NHL network, he could have had about 2 more goals also. Just one of those nights where everything he did went right. Helped that the Rangers took some pretty dumb penalties.

Guranteed he had high shooting percentage because the wild only had 22 shots on net.

The two unsportsmanlike penalties were total BS calls. A high flying elboy to prucha's head was uncalled and the Rangers asked whats up with the elbow and get called and then drury is blantenly triped and also uncalled and drury question's it and then a second call. The officiating was in total favor of the Wild. At best Gaborik had 3 of those goals without the crap BS calls. O well he was at his best last night when you consider the wild took only 22 shots.

The guy was unstoppable. I still cant believe the NHL network made a bigger deal of Crosby's fight than Gaborik's goals. I guess more people would be interested in a big name like Crosby fighting, but five goals! Nossagog is right, he could have scored two more.
