Default Wild Lose Tenth Straight Road Game

The Minnesota Wild lost their tenth straight road game to the Detroit Red Wings tonight by a score of 3-1.

Detroit opened the scoring 16 seconds after the opening faceoff when K Maltby scored and never looked back as they went ahead 3-0. Zetterberg and Franzen also scored for the Wings.

“It was a big thing to do to try and come back from that start,” Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire said.

Pavel Demitra manged to score the Wild’s only goal at the 17:14 mark of the second period. There was no scoring in the third period as Hasek once again backstopped the Red Wings to another victory over the Wild.

The shots were even as Hasek stopped 31 of 32 that he faced and Backstrom stopped 30 of the 33 he faced.

The rookie goaltender praised Hasek.

“He’s proven he’s one of the best and he’s shown that age is just a number,” Backstrom said. “It’s how your body feels and how you work it. It’s a great role model for a young goalie, how you should work and how you should play.”

The Wild will now travel home to face the Blue Jackets Friday night at the friendly Excel Energy Center.

The Wild’s next road game isn’t until January 9th when they face division rival Calgary Flames. Hopefully they will be able to solve their road problems by then and snap this club record road losing streak.
