Default Wild ink D Johnsson to four-year deal

Quote:
The Minnesota Wild continue to re-tool their defence.

After signing Keith Carney earlier on Saturday, the club has signed Kim Johnsson to a four-year, $19.4 million contract.

The 30-year old Johnsson recorded six goals and 19 assists in 47 games with Philadelphia Flyers last season. He missed the last 31 games of the regular season and all six of the Flyers playoff games with a head injury.

More details to follow.

The wild have always had a good team, Lamaire is an amazing coach. To bad his hockey is boring.

Johnson is a good defenseman, but over 4 mil per year? The Wild overpayed... + he has a history of injuries (read: Concussions) in the past few seasons...

this could either turn into a good pickup or a really bad pick-up (ie. concussions)

Of all the d-men the Flyers could've lost (Hatcher, Rathje) Johnson was propably third last on my list.

they were probably better off resigning kuba. he would have been cheaper. johnsson is an excellent defender and i could see him signing in the $3.5-4.5 million range if he didn't have the concussion problem. at this point though, he's probably only worth $2.5-3. almost $5 million a year is insane.

I think the Wild proceeded to the best upgrades since the beginning of UFA (if you include the move for Demitra).

Wow, maybe the Wild are actually going to have some offence this year. Johnsson is a good pick up on the back end and has some scoring ability. They did overpay, but that seems to be the order of the day. Who didn';t get overpaid really, and at least Johnsson is still young. It's good to see a GM like Risebrough making these bold moves, the people of Minnesota deserve it after sitting through those years of defensive hockey.
