While Wild GM Doug Risebrough has always liked Todd Marchant's game, he doesn't like the centerman's contract, reports the Star-Tribune.
According to the paper, Marchant agent, Lewis Gross, called the Wild last week to canvas interest in his client after Columbus put him on waivers, but the Wild want nothing to do with the remainder of his $10 million over the next four years.
The only way the Wild would even consider Marchant is if the Blue Jackets paid half his salary
"The market changed dramatically," Blue Jackets GM Doug MacLean told the Star-Tribune, "and it's tough to pay a player that much for that role. That's not Todd's fault, it's mine. I signed him."
Meanwhile, the Star-Tribune claims that salary cap issues have prevented the likes of St. Louis from unloading Doug Weight, the Islanders' from trading Janne Niinimaa and Edmonton from ridding themselves of Michael Peca.
