MINNESOTA WILD SIGNS FREE AGENT FORWARD BRIAN ROLSTON
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free agent forward Brian Rolston to a multi-year contract.
“Brian is a very versatile player that can play both offense and defense,” said Risebrough. “He can play all three forward positions and has a strong winning and team background. We are excited to have him join the Minnesota Wild and continue to develop our team.”
Rolston (pronounced RAWL-stuhn), 31 (2/21/73), collected 48 points (19-29=48) in 82 games with the Boston Bruins last season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound right wing led the NHL with seven shorthanded points (5-2=7) and recorded 59 points (27-32=59) in 81 contests with the Bruins during the 2002-03 campaign. He has tallied 432 points (190-242=432) and 223 penalty minutes in 736 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche and Boston. Rolston was a member of the 1995 Stanley Cup champion New Jersey team coached by current Wild head coach Jacques Lemaire. He was originally selected by the Devils in the first round (11th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
The Flint, Michigan-native is a two-time Olympian with Team USA. Rolston earned a silver medal at the 2002 Olympics notching three assists in six contests. He recorded seven goals in eight games at the 1994 Olympics. Rolston is also a two-time member of the United States World Cup of Hockey team. He captured the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and was named to the World Cup of Hockey 2004 club that will play at Xcel Energy Center in September. Rolston also scored the game-winning goal in the 1992 NCAA National Championship Game for Lake Superior State University.
