Minnesota Scene: Wild will make Fernandez offer
Star Tribune
June 23, 2004 SCEN0623
Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough said Tuesday he will extend goalie Manny Fernandez a $2.2 million qualifying offer by the June 30 deadline.
"If I say that, will I end all the goalie rumors?" Risebrough said. "I usually don't answer those questions, but I'll answer that one so I don't have to hear it anymore."
Fernandez, who struggled to an 11-14-9 record and a 2.51 goals-against average last season, can either sign the one-year offer or seek arbitration.
"It's not the money," Risebrough said of re-upping with Fernandez. "It's the value."
Indeed, it was largely goaltending that allowed the Wild to go 30-29-20-3 despite averaging 2.3 goals. This will be season No. 4 for the Wild's rotating system, which features Fernandez and Dwayne Roloson.

Obviously Roloson will be starter but is a goalie like Fernandez worth $2.2 M for his backup duties? He had a medicore season, I would look for another very young goalie rather then him.
