Default Gaborik signs contract, Minny fans dancing in the streets

Just got the following from Sportsnet's website,
Quote:
Gaborik, Wild end contract dispute

Marian Gaborik became Minnesota's first all-star last year.

Sportsnet.ca -- Marian Gaborik has agreed to contract terms with the Minnesota Wild, Sportsnet has learned. Gaborik, a right wing, led the Wild with 65 regular-season points last year and scored a team-high 30 goals.

Sources are telling Sportsnet that the deal is worth $10 million (base salary) for three years. However, the contract could approach $15 million with bonuses.

He became the team's first all-star last year and helped lead Minnesota's surprise playoff run that saw the club lose to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the Western Conference finals.

The Wild will welcome Gaborik's scoring touch. The team has scored just 26 goals in 11 games, winning only four of those games.
About time. Glad that's over. Seems like Gaborik and his agent won the contract war, Marion will earn anywhere from $3.33 million to $5 million per year. Sounds well above what the Wild wanted to pay. Let's hope he's actually worth it.

Hmmm, now that Gaborik is back, will Daigle be sent to the minors?

Good that they got him signed. I guess Minnesota started to worry re the playoffs.

About Daigle, he is doing pretty well this year, and I think he will last on the Wild. Remember they have other players who are worse than he is..this IS Minnesota.

When is Muckault coming back anyway?

Damn, I was hoping Minny would continue to be stubborn.

Sounds like Gabby got close to what he was looking for. Too bad for the fans it had to get dragged out this long. He instantly makes them a much better team. They're mid pack goal scoring wise right now so they actually didn't too bad considering Dupuis played his first game last night and Gaborik was out.

Well he earned over 4 million last year with bonuses, so if his new is as has been reported he can only earn up to 5 million a season, it doesn't seem to me that Gaborik won. He'll only be earning slightly less than a million more if he reaches his bonuses.

Good, now Minnesota should be a lot better with him signed. Now the only 'big' player left to re-sign is Mike Comrie.

Hey IT, I just re-read your post and I don't see anything in there about "Minny fans dnacing in the streets". Is that another of those sensationalistic headlines or was there any actual dancing going on?

A little bit of an exaggeration. I know that if Naslund or Bertuzzi held out and were finally signed a month into the season, I would be running around Salmon Arm, yelling, laughing and dancing in the street until the cops hauled me off to jail. I'm sure there must be a number of Minny fans who feel the same way.

A sensational headline would have been "Wild sign Gaborik: Naked women dancing in the streets".

BTW, during the first intermission of the Canuck game, Sportsnet said Gaborik switch to a new agent to get the deal done. Instead of Walsh and his partner, Gaborik went with a new agency and some guy with a last name starting with a "S", Sonnery, Sommy, didn't quite hear what Nik Kyperos said.

Ron Salcer was his new agent. He's gonna have a few people coming after a chunk of his money. He could be in for some more off ice problems.

Well if Nazzy or Bert were unsigned at this point of the year Burke would be "driving them to the airport" by now but I agree. If I were a Minny fan I would be happy now. There aren't many exciting players on that team. Gabby tops the list.
