Default Wild needs Gaborik and Dupuis now.

After losing to the Flames, the Wild now have a record of 1 win, 5 losses and 1 tie. They have 14 goals for and 20 against which means they are averaging 2 GF and 3 GA per game.

We all know that the Wild have two competent goalies but they can't completely shut the door every game. Therefore the obvious answer is the Wild need to score more goals but its a little hard to do when your top three scorers from last season aren't on the current team.

Gaborik lead the team with 65 points, and Pascal Dupuis and Cliff Ronning each had 48 points.

Ronning is gone because he was unwilling to take a pay cut over his $1.85 million salary from last season. Cheap frickin owners, Cliffy was tied for second in scoring on an offensively challenged team and the owners want to lowball him.

The Wild continues talking to Gaborik and Dupuis but neither has signed a new deal. The Wild was in the driver's seat until the season started but now the power is shifting. If the Wild continue to dwell in the cellar, I expect Gaborik to be signed for sure and possibly Dupuis. This team isn't like the Senators, who have so much talent that Havlat wasn't missed; the Wild are without their top two scorers.

Let's hope a reasonable offer is accepted by both sides so the Wild can make the playoffs and beat the rotten Avs again.

Got the following story from TSN's website,
Quote:
Gaborik stalemate near an end?

TSN.ca Staff

10/22/2003

The stalemate between Marian Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild could be nearing an end.

Gaborik's agent, David Schatia, spent two days in Minneapolis before returning to Montreal on Tuesday without a deal. However, he hinted that there might be something to report in the next 48 hours.

"There are a few things we have to discuss, and events will probably unfold as they unfold," Schatia tells the Pioneer Press. "As long as people are talking, and there's dialogue between intelligent people, there is always hope that a resolution can be reached."

Schatia recently replaced partner Allan Walsh in contract talks at the request of Gaborik.

Wild general manager Doug Risebrough, who recently went public with the team's contract offer, refused to comment on the state of talks with Gaborik or Pascal Dupuis, the team's other holdout who is also represented by Schatia and Allan Walsh.

Both sides are reportedly $375,000 apart on a two-year deal for Dupuis while $10 million separates both sides on a three-year deal for Gaborik.
While only mentioned as an afterthought in this story, it sounds like Dupuis has a better chance of being signed than Gaborik.

I heard something on Sportsnet, that if the Wild keep playing the way they do..they will not make the playoffs.

So then Gaborik would not be signed this year.

But, I say they do have a very good chance at making them if they sign

-Gaborik
-Dupuis
-Ronning

Atleast Ronning will take less money. If Minnestota doesn't sign Ronning, Atlanta should

What reporting!!! In the tight West, these first few games might actually cost the Wild a spot when/if they are fighting for a 7th/8th spot next March and April!!!

Craven has a point. We all know how tight the West is every year. The Wild lost to Chicago in their season opener and to San Jose in their third game. If Gaborik, Dupuis and Ronning were playing, the Wild would've won at least one if not both games. Those two or four points lost could mean either ending up in 7th or 8th, or worst yet, out of the playoffs completely.

Yeah, but they'd better sign them soon.

Otherwise the Wild will be out of playoff contention. And then the Wild hold all the cards, and Gaborik/Dupuis will not be coming back until the next season.

Because..why?..if your team will not make the playoffs this year..why bring them back at what they want this year..when you can bring them back next year, at something more in your ball park.

Hope they sign them fast
