Boston Red Sox pitcher David Wells has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday night and it is believed the left-hander has been traded.
Wells' locker in the Red Sox clubhouse was cleaned out, but there has not been an official announcement by team officials.
ESPN is reporting that Wells has been dealt to the San Diego Padres.
Wells is 2-3 with a 4.98 earned run average in eight starts this season. He has been the subject of trade rumors for over a week as the Red Sox have fallen out of the playoff picture.
Julian Tavarez will start in place of Wells against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. The right-hander is 2-4 with a 4.71 ERA this season. This will be his first start since the 2002 season.
