Detroit Tigers host the Kansas City Royals again tonight
(Sports Network) - Mike Maroth targets his third win of the season this evening when the Detroit Tigers play the second game of their three-game set with the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park.
After beating Kansas City in his season debut, Maroth moved to 2-0 on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays, as he allowed two runs and nine hits over six innings, while lowering his earned run average to 4.91.
DETROIT (AP) - The Kansas City Royals haven't figured out how to stop Ivan Rodriguez.
Rodriguez had a grand slam and six RBIs to back Justin Verlander's first win of the season in the Tigers' 12-5 victory over the Royals on Monday night.
DETROIT (AP) - Placido Polanco's tiebreaking single with two outs in the eighth inning gave the Detroit Tigers a 7-6 win over Kansas City on Tuesday night and extended the Royals' losing streak to six.
Polanco also hit a solo home run and tripled, Magglio Ordonez had three hits and three RBIs and Marcus Thames homered.
DETROIT (AP) - John Buck hit a leadoff homer in the 10th inning and the Kansas City Royals rallied past the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Wednesday to end their six-game losing streak.
Gil Meche did not allow an earned run in eight innings for the Royals, who fell behind 3-0 when they gave up three unearned runs in the sixth. But Mike Sweeney hit an RBI single in the seventh and Kansas City tied it with two runs in the ninth against closer Todd Jones.
(Sports Network) - A pair of teams expected to contend in the competitive American League Central in 2007 meet for the first time this season tonight at Detroit's Comerica Park, where the defending league champion Tigers host the Chicago White Sox.
This three-game series features the last two AL pennant winners. Detroit engineered a remarkable one-year turnaround that culminated with an appearance in last October's Fall Classic, while the White Sox captured the 2005 AL Central title and followed with a dominating postseason run that brought the franchise its first world championship since 1919.
Chicago White Sox win fourth straight. drop Tigers
DETROIT (AP) - The Chicago White Sox are pretty confident when they have to go to their bullpen.
Jermaine Dye doubled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and five Chicago relievers combined to toss three scoreless innings in a 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
White Sox relievers also tossed 4 1-3 shutout innings in a 5-4 victory over the Tigers on Friday.
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers hope a day off will help Gary Sheffield turn around his slumping start.
The nine-time all-star hit just .119 through the first 17 games this season, his first in Detroit, and is hitless in his last 12 at-bats.
''He'll start fresh on the West Coast, he'll be back in tomorrow,'' Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before Detroit beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5 in 12 innings on Sunday. ''It's a new team and he wants to do it so bad because the fans have been great. He's probably pressing, but his timing is just not right.''
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Curtis Granderson led off the game with a home run, Ivan Rodriguez had a pair of two-out RBI singles and the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-5 on Monday night.
Jason Grilli (2-1) pitched 2 1-3 innings of hitless relief for the victory, allowing a run on Orlando Cabrera's sacrifice fly in the sixth.
