Default Kings, Oilers battle in LA

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings will try for their first three-game winning streak of the season tonight, when they welcome the Edmonton Oilers to Staples Center.

The Kings have earned victories over Columbus and Detroit to win consecutive contests for the fourth time this season. LA hasn't won three in a row since a five-game win stretch from February 11-March 7 of last season.

Los Angeles earned its most recent triumph Saturday evening against the visiting Red Wings. Michael Cammalleri scored the game-winning goal late in the third off the stick of Detroit defenseman Danny Markov as the Kings reeled off four unanswered goals to beat Detroit, 4-2.

Lubomir Visnovsky, Rob Blake and Sean Avery also scored for the Kings, who have won four of their last six, but are still last in the Pacific Division with 37 points.

Tonight marks the third portion of a four-game homestand for the Kings, who are 11-9-5 as the host this year.

Meanwhile, Edmonton has dropped two straight contests and is coming off Friday's loss in Vancouver. Matt Cooke scored two goals, including the game- winner 1:24 into overtime to lift the Canucks to the 3-2 win.

Petr Sykora managed to tie the game with 2:56 left in the third, but the Oilers got caught too deep in the Canucks' zone in the extra session and Vancouver made them pay. Kevin Bieksa and Cooke broke out for a two-on-none break before Edmonton defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron managed to catch up to the two skaters. Bieksa, though, crossed up Bergeron before finding Cooke for the game-winner.
