LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Kings left wing Ken Belanger has informed the club of his intentions to retire from the National Hockey League, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.
Belanger, 31, had zero points and seven penalty minutes in five games with the Kings this season. The 6-4, 220-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario signed a one-year contract with the Kings and made the team out of training camp as a non-roster invitee.
Belanger was originally selected by the Hartford Whalers in the seventh-round in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and played for the Kings during the 2002-03 season when he collected 17 penalty minutes in four games before suffering a concussion that caused him to miss the remainder of the season.
In addition, he appeared in 43 games with the Kings during the 2001-02 season and recorded two points and 85 penalty minutes.
In 248 career NHL games with the Kings, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs, Belanger had 23 points and 695 penalty minutes.
