The Los Angeles Kings have signed veteran left winger Luc Robitaille to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million, TSN has learned.
The Kings have also offered winger Ziggy Palffy a three-year contract worth $6.5 million per year but Palffy hasn't committed to that and may explore unrestricted free agency on July 1.
"We are pleased that Luc has re-signed with the Kings," said Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor. "He had a tremendous year for us last year and he remains one of the most popular players ever to wear a Kings jersey. He has always represented the Kings in a first-class manner and we have always considered him to be a King at heart. We hope that he eventually retires in a Kings uniform."
Said Robitaille, who is on vacation in his native Montreal: "I am both happy and excited to return to the Kings. This is where I started my career and this is where I believe I will end my career. This is where I belong. This is my home."
Robitaille, 38, was drafted by the Kings in 1984 and spent eight seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Rick Tocchet in 1994. Robitaille spent the following two seasons with the New York Rangers before beginning a second stint in Los Angeles. Robitaille spent four more years with the Kings before the Detroit Red Wings signed him as an unrestricted free agent.
Robitaille again returned to the Kings in 2003 when signed as an unrestricted free agent. In 80 games last season, Robitaille recorded 22 goals and 29 assists with a plus-4 rating.
Palffy, 32, was a second round pick (26th overall) by the New York Islanders in the 1991 draft. He later was traded, along with Bryan Smolinski, Marcel Cousineau and a 4th round selection (previously acquired from the New Jersey Devils - Daniel Johansson), to the Kings for Olli Jokinen, Josh Green, Mathieu Biron and a 1st round selection (Taylor Pyatt) in 1999.
