With the New Year almost upon us which issues do you think the NHL will have to tackle in order to improve its overall place among the pro sports world?
Steroids
Head Injuries
Salary cap adjustment (As suggested by Brian Burke)
NHL/Euro transfer agreements
Possible new pro league in Russia.
Lets hear your ideas. The best article will win a personal user title. Last day for posting is Jan 10, 2008.
From what Ive seen of games in the last few months I think the biggest problem is attendance. I think its time for the NHL to give up on some of the weak franchises. Sadly I cant see it happening since the only one who has control over the issue will never let in because it would be a strong indication that he's not doing his job.
Not sure what you mean by a Euro transfer agreement, but not many people realise how much damage the NHL does to euro leagues stealing not only their star players but also alot of players that will; with logic, never make it big but have a remote chance of minor impacts on a team. I know its never gonna happen but I would like to see an NHL with a Euro conference and a North American conference. Given the popularity of hockey in Europe despite the fact that the NHL has poached most of the players it's not hard to believe that it could become more popular than in some of the American city's, especially if they had one of their hometown players playing for them (ex. an Alex Ovechkin playing in Moscow).
To be honest, I haven't watched a single game on Versus this season. I'm not sure most of America even knows the network exists...
I'm thinking getting back on ESPN with lots of promotion and a regular broadcast time like Monday Night football in the States or Friday Night football in Canada.
Oh yes and quite a few more million in revenues than is now the case.
From my understandment is that we just type this up in a one post essay, am I correct?
Sure I guess thats fine, I just wanted to keep this place going, sort of hold the fort for MaCabe (where is he?) This is his baby, an idea that I liked and want to make it work in his absence.
The first thing they need to do is fire Bettman before he ruins the game even further. Then we might be able to talk about some good points for the future.

agree 100 percent with the getting rid of certain franchises. Get rid of florida and phoenix and put a team in hamilton or winnipeg. our money is stronger than american. we can now hang with them.
A euro confrence would be amazing. I would love to see a helsinki, stockholm, Prague,Moscow , saint petersburg, Kiev, Vienna, Berlin and possibly Munchen have teams.
could you imagine Kipper play in net for Helsinki or Jagr on the road facing Ovechkin in Moscow. Then again that would mean death to the washington capitols.
Ive come to understand that czech people dislike Jagr though
