Fantastic posts by both debaters IMO. Concise and delivered with excellence - you both should take a moment to recognize your writing talents

As for the debate. Going in I always held Roy in high regard, not the highest, for reasons McCabe pointed out.

When big games were on the line....he was astonishing.

I'm going to avoid getting long winded here but just wanted to make sure I mentioned how much I enjoyed the read through and both of your prospectives!

I was actually surprised that MaCabe threw Brodeur's name in there, simply because of how many believe it's the system that made him. Obviously it helped him, there's no debating that, but it's still nice to see. I do believe Brodeur could surpass him before his career is over, but until then I have to side with Phish.

By the way, excellent opening arguments by both sides. It should be interesting to see how this one plays out. Now if we could only transfer some of that excellent posting to the rest of the forums...

Not to start a debate with these people but the system matters little when a game's on the line and a big big save is necessary.

No kidding.... However, some of us threw in the towel on attempting to contribute anything more than we used to as there simply was no further point. This site has changed drastically from what it once was. Seems the day of the one line contributer and the closet flamer have come. There was a time when disrespectful people were called on it, no matter how they presented themselves. The passionate have moved on or have been silenced it seems. I too hope this brings awareness to just how good some of this sites members are at writing and debating....with respect, that is if only they're still around.

I think that it can be argued that all the goalies that MaCabe listed are better, but I think you have to stretch things pretty bad to get it to fit. To me, to try and argue someone is better than Roy is to argue against reason. He is clearly the most accomplished goalie, as of right now, and was a seriously tough competitor, more dedicated to winning than most players ever are. This is a guy that led his team as the last line of defense for a longer span of time than any other goalie, with great numbers to the end, playing some of his best hockey near the end of his career. Was this the result of a talented team? Well... find me a team that wins without a good goaltender. It starts in net, and Roy retired as the best goalie in NHL history. Will he be usurped by Brodeur when he retires? Easily possible. But right now, no way can you consider Brodeur better.
