Opening Guide Lines
I think points there should be points awarded to the winner of the debate. The winner of the debate will be crowned after a poll is held for a week after a debate takes place, or if one of the debaters has been disqualified.
The organization of the debate will be as follows:
Two posters will agree on a topic sentence. A topic sentence must be a statement that can be awarded a truth value and must be based on hockey. For example, "fighting should be removed from the game of hockey." One poster will take the affirmative position, the other the negative.
When this has been done, the two posters will email me the topic sentence and which position they are taking on the topic. After this has been done I will then examine previous posts by both posters and if I feel they are capable of the caliber of posting that is required for this task to be successful I will open a topic where only the two debaters will be allowed to post.
When the topic has been started each poster will be allotted a week to comprise opening statements that should encompass roughly 750+ words, all spelling and grammar reasonably checked and paragraphs well distinguished. The first to post will be the affirmative and the then followed by the negative, the negative will not be entitled to address the affirmative introduction, they must create their own points independent of their opponents submission.
Then there will be a one week intermission while both sides prepare their second posts. These posts should address the points their opponent lays out in their first post. Direct quotes are a necessity.
This post should also exceed 750 words, grammar and spelling and paragraphs will also be a necessity. Negative will post first
Personal attacks and/or insults will result in an immediate disqualification.
Then there will be another week to prepare closing statements. No later than the end of this week the concluding comments will be posted. These will include reiterating points addressing the weaknesses of your argument as outlined by your opponent in the previous post, and then drawing it all together. This post should also exceed 750 words. The negative will post first once again and the affirmative last, and like in the first and second posts the second poster will not be allowed to post comments directed to the final post of the first poster, it is supposed to stimulate simultaneous posting.
While this is happening a sister thread will be opened where the debaters will not be allowed to post. People reading the debate will discuss what they think of the topic and the debate taking place. After the debate is completed this topic will have a poll added to it and a week later the poll will close deeming either affirmative or negative the winner, unless a disqualification has taken place.
If I say that your posting quality does not seem enough to justify allowing you to participate in this debate feel free to PM me a sample of your writing. Or prove me wrong by making many quality posts on the forum and then re-apply.
I am going to make a thread with potential topics soon and in that thread people can offer a challenge under a topic sentence they either find or create.
