We have the Porcupine Mountains up in the U.P. But down here in the "Mitten" we got diddly-poo. We got some hills and stuff, but for the most part, Michigan is flat.

I use to climb, one of the mountains was Longs Peak I can't remember the exact height but I think It was 14,125 something like that. Its as flat as a football field on top really cool.

wow thats quite the mountain i bet the veiw was spectacular at the top. I enjoyed every moment on top of Katadin the veiw was fantasic for the most of it the top of Katadin was pretty flat and it looked like a scence from brave heart the whole feild way covered with rocks witha greeny moss growing on them and little bits of grass growing around all the rocks you could see for miles around there were large groups of people at the top and one of the hikers with us flew his kite at the top of the mountain he attracted a bunch of attention and got his picture taken by alot of people but all in all mountain climbing is awesome

That is really cool how you love mountain hiking. The view was really cool. You can actually see Wyoming off in the distance. Which is about 100 miles away. It takes a little bit of focus since at about 11,500 ft the trees completely disappear. There are all these really cool grouse that change colors(during the season from brown to white) then the sun is burning your skin but yet it is still very cold from the strong constant wind. Its weird. Now If you ever come to colorado you can drive up pikes peak in the summer which is 14,110 but that is the cheap way us real hikers know there is a difference betwwen a comfortable drive or you against the mountain for two days. I bet Katadin was cool let me know if there any pics of it on the web. If you ever come to colorado let me know we can knock off a fourteener. Here is a pic of the mountain.

Check out Blanca Peak I climbed that one almost five years ago and out of all the fourteeners its probably one of the most beautiful mountains in Colorado.

Well Katadin was my first mountain and I've been told by numerous people i picked a good one for my first one. I know exactly what you ean about the sun the whole time i was at the top i was freezing my A** off but when we got home my aunt exclaimed at how tanned i was. Katadin is 12 feet short of a mile so its not as tall as most of your mountains but its a very steep mountain all around its most famous trail is called
"the Knife's edge" it is a long trail that is a sheer drop off on both sides of the trail if you slipped you'd be a gone for good. when we reached baxters peak you could see these tiny little ants moving across what looked like a terrifying ledge. If you pm me your e-mail adress then i can send you the pictures we took
