Canadian pleads not guilty to trespassing at Schwarzenegger's L.A. home
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Canadian man was being held Tuesday on charges that he trespassed on Arnold Schwarzenegger's sprawling estate in Brentwood, police said.
Richard Sathianathan, 32, was charged with two counts of trespassing, and one count each of prowling, vehicle tampering and petty theft, authorities said. He pleaded not guilty Tuesday during a court appearance and remained jailed on $50,000 bail. Sathianathan, originally from Toronto, Canada, has no known address, said Matt Szabo, a spokesman for the city attorney's office.
A Schwarzenegger spokesman declined to comment on the case Tuesday.
According to the complaint, Sathianathan jumped a fence at the Schwarzenegger home and allegedly stole items valued at less than $400 from one of the family's vehicles.
Police said Sathianathan was first spotted at the actor's home early Saturday.
"We got a call that security for Arnold Schwarzenegger was detaining a trespassing suspect," police Officer Jason Lee said.
Lee said officers were called to the estate, but they did not book Sathianathan. Misdemeanours must occur in the presence of law enforcement officers for them to make an arrest.
Police arrested him after he allegedly returned to the home Sunday.
