Police investigating the 50 Cent gunfire case have confirmed that one of two gunmen involved in an incident last week was from an entourage believed to be the rapper's. Up until this point, investigators were unsure whether the entourage was involved in the event, but a hotel surveillance video shows a man in the group firing a gun, according to a Jersey City Police spokesperson.
50 and his crew are thought to be central figures in the gunfire incident outside the Doubletree Hotel in Jersey City, New Jersey, where a dozen shots were exchanged around midnight on September 8 (see "50 Cent Wanted For Questioning In Connection With Shots Fired At Hotel"). Bullet casings from two different firearms, a .40 and a .45 caliber, were found at the scene.
Police are still trying to identify specific people on the videotape, including the gunmen they have photographed. It is unclear who initiated the firing, who was being fired upon and whether anyone was actually hit. After the exchange, 50 Cent and his crew piled back into their SUVs and drove off, according to eyewitness reports given to police.
Police still will not confirm or deny that they have actually identified 50 Cent in the videotape. Jersey City police would like him to come in voluntarily and answer questions. District attorney offices in New York and Jersey City have been recruited to figure out whether they can compel testimony through a warrant or a subpoena.
