Default Metropolit heading to Switzerland for 2 years

Quote:
Montreal Canadiens centre Glen Metropolit has signed a two-year contract with EV Zug in Switzerland.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Claimed off waivers from the Flyers on Feb. 27, 2009, the unrestricted free agent scored 16 goals and added 13 assists for the Canadiens last season.

The Toronto native racked up a career-best 33 points during his lone season in Boston.

I'm surprised the Habs let him go...are the Habs suddenly bursting at the seams with talent that they don't need a guy like Metropolit?

Lars Eller put him on the outs. There's only so much space down the middle, and Metropolit (and Moore) were the two that lost out.

this sucks I think roughly 20 teams could have used him as a third or fourth liner, solid face off guy good, defensive game and he found a scoring touch last season. I was kind of hoping ht eleafs would have grabed him, or Belanger

I kinda liked him when he was with Philly. Flyers are pretty stacked down the middle, so obviously there's no room there, but I liked his short stay with the Flyers.

He has something to offer several NHL clubs, but all I can guess is that the money wasn't right. There's a LOT of free agents who can fill a specific role that just aren't being signed yet.
