Hockey Trades, Rumors & SigningsThe NHL always has a very active trading rumor-mill. Who is the next player to be shipped out? And who will be the next big free agent signing? Discuss NHL trade rumors and free agents.
Hollweg's dirty hits were not nearly as numerous as you people like to make out. Especially considering all he did was hit. Sure he did stupid things on occasion but he's not nearly as dirty as Tucker or Camshaft Janssen. I liked it that the Rangers had a guy that could dish it out instead of taking it all the time. I won't miss watching him lose fights though.
He Hit? O ya he hit but wasnt very good at it. Good ridence.

One thing thats been lacking in the Leafs lineup the last few years is some mustard.
Well if your mustard is brown and has a rancid odour, then ya I suppose he would fit the bill.

So how many weeks do we want to bet before they trade a 6th rounder for him?

That's lowering the definition of playing hockey to a very low bar, but yes.
Did I just say that? I think I need to lie down.

The team was shaping up so nicely. I don't want this guy on my team. He's exactly the kind of player I thought they were trying to get rid of.
And a 5th rounder gone to boot. *shakes head*
He's doing a good job of changing my mind... NOT!
This fool shouldn't even be playing in the NHL if you ask me. He should be playing in the ECHL, where nobody notices when this kind of garbage is gong on.
With all the moves Fletcher made, This is the only one that I still can't figure out. It seemed so JFJ-esque. Was the board attempting to get involved again, or did Fletch just have a brain-cramp? This made no sense at all!!
Ugh! The disgusting and disgraceful scrap that has fallen upon the us!
And the draft pick... THE DRAFT PICK!!!

Had a feeling that this thread was going to be resurrected tonight. I still say that he's way more stupid than dirty. But he's going to stupid himself out of the league if he hasn't already.
At the end of the day Hollweg cost a 5th round pick. Pretty much nothing. The call was based on reputation which I admit has been earned. But looking at the hit again, Pietro turned his back at the worst possible moment.
It was a play that could have involved any player in the league. It appears that I am defending Hollweg, and blaming the victim, I'm not. This is typical play in the NHL, player A has the puck against the boards, player B comes in for the hit, player A see's they are about to get hit and natural survival instinct takes over and he turns away from the blow. It really is that simple.
It was a waste of a pick. Who knows what it could have turned into, and if nothng so special, it could have gone towards a different deal.
They either wasted a piece of their future, or wasted a pick that could have gone into another deal. No need to throw it into the garbage can for no reason whatsoever, especially for one of the worst players in the National Hockey league.
Waste is waste. This guy is waiver fodder.
Here's a question for everyone: Have you ever seen a team leave a draft pick on waivers? Even a 9th round draft pick?

Thats bull**** Amo. He lined up to Pietrangelo's back. The only movement made by the kid was to dip his shoulder while he moved the puck, and Hollweg lined up to his back and drove him into the boards. A moronic hit.
Alex Pietrangelo was not the only one hurt by Ryan Hollweg yesterday.
So were his own Maple Leafs teammates.
This is becoming a disturbing trend that must stop. In a hurry.
Admittedly, general manager Cliff Fletcher and coach Ron Wilson are within their rights to suggest the five-minute boarding major and game misconduct handed out to Hollweg for wallpapering the St. Louis Blues defenceman in the second period were "marginal" calls.
On that point, we agree to disagree. That's fine. Each argument has merit.
But the Leafs braintrust hardly can debate the following:
- That Hollweg's history of run-ins with the NHL's guru of discipline, Colin Campbell, makes him a "target" of officials, a point Wilson did acknowledge.
- That Hollweg needed to be smarter, especially after just coming off a two-game suspension for running Blues defenceman Jay McKee from behind 12 days ago.
- That Hollweg's splattering of Pietrangelo changed the momentum in favour of the Blues, who wiped out a 3-1 Toronto lead with a pair of power-play goals on the ensuing man advantage en route to a 5-4 shootout victory.
In the end, he let his team down. A young team. An inexperienced, unpredictable team that can turn every game, every period, every shift, into a wild roller-coaster ride.
A team that rides on the emotions of youth.
A team that had everything going for it, including a two-goal lead.
And then Hollweg hit a Blues player from behind.
Again.
Cue the St. Louis comeback.
Hollweg is a standup guy. During his brief tenure in Toronto, he has exhibited a penchant for coming to the aid of his teammates, a trait that should be commended.
His decision-making, however, should not be.
Here he was, making his Leafs regular-season debut, having missed the first two games because suspension. Here was his chance to display leadership in a dressing room full of baby-faced kids.
Instead, his comeback lasted five shifts. Four minutes of ice time. And one huge error in judgment.
Again.
*Shakes head* What a waste. A win yesterday would have been HUGE for the younger players on this team.
Hopefully the Leafs can take another team out for a free dinner and try to persuade them to take this guy off their hands for free. They don't need a player like this in Toronto. He's a TERRIBLE example out there.

Let's hope that we will never see or hear anything like that ever again.

I agree, it was moronic for Hollweg, he needs to realize the league will not give him the benefit of the doubt.
