Another source told me that he had heard that Mats is leaning heavily towards a decision this weekend and that from all he has heard Mats may ask for a one year deal in Montreal.
"Gainey thoroughly impressed Mats, and although you often hear this sort of thing out there when teams are talking to players you honestly can't get two people who are more true to their word and respectful of the situation than Mats and Bob."
I honestly feel its down to 2 teams, Montreal and Toronto. And I really do believe he is torn up inside about making a call like this. He is in a no win situation here, he goes to Montreal, some will call him a traitor to the blue and white, he stays in Toronto he will be called a player that doesn't have the winning attitude. And if by some miricle he goes to Vancouver he will be called in it for the money. If I am Mats, I split the difference, take the 2 year 14 M deal thats apparently being offered in Le Belle Province.

A source today continued to hint towards Mats making up his mind, "by the end of the month" adding, "They may tell you later to take the pressure off, but a source in Montreal tells me that the Habs and Mats are in 'regular contact.'" Ah so nice to be regular!
The rumour around Montreal is that they want Sundin for two years as it will be easier to bring new UFAs to Montreal with a commitment from Sundin in 2009-10, as Tanguay, Kovalev and Koivu are all scheduled to become UFAs.

You can't add Sundin to Vancouver and not add him with Montreal in your comparisons in saying that Vancouver with Sundin is better than Montreal without him!
Also, in all due respect, I don't think that you've looked at the Montreal line-up as of late and are basing your opinion on the Habs of a few years ago. Off our regular roster, we only have 4 guys under 6'0 (one of them Bouillon and he's almost 200 lbs) and only 3 under 190 lbs (one of them being Begin and we know how he plays)...
And I'm basing my opinion on what I saw of Montreal's performance in the playoffs last season. I watched almost all of their games, and they were a perimeter team with no willingness to sacrifice their bodies. With the exception of Tanguay and Laraque, it is the same lineup.
If Mats is choosing based on the team's ability to win a Stanley Cup, with Luongo and how the team looks now that thgey've added Demitra and Davison to the mix, Vancouver should be his first choice.
And I wouldn't read too much into him being in regular contact with Gainey. Gillis has said that Mats has also been in regular contact with him as well.
And Gillis has lef the term up to Mats. One or two years, his choice.

Not only did the Habs make the playoffs last year, they won the conference! Because they took their championship team and added to great addition without subtracting anything too valuable doesn't make them weaker, but stronger.
The Canucks? They got rid of the little offense they had in Naslund's 25 goals and 55 points and replaced it with Dimitra's 15 goals and 54 points. What else? They got rid or their true second line center who was injured most of last year in Morrison and replace him with Kyle Wellwood! They didn't make the playoffs last year and I doubt they'll make them again this year.
Now add Sundin to both line-ups and see the depth. I don't know why I'm even debating this, really. In all due respect, it's not even close.

I'm not to sure about that Joce as the Habs won a great deal of those games with Huet and we all no how price performed in the playoffs.
So i'll argue that goaltending was a huge part of Montreals success and as of now it's a huge question mark that could set the Habs back as they try to go forward.
The Mats Sundin watch...
