Hockey Trades, Rumors & SigningsThe NHL always has a very active trading rumor-mill. Who is the next player to be shipped out? And who will be the next big free agent signing? Discuss NHL trade rumors and free agents.
Bob Gainey is a genius , he seriously is.
I really want Sundin to sign , and Gainey feel the same.
Gainey didn't panic like a lot of Gms did , he make a very solid and logic signong by acquiring the King Laraque , Marc Denis , a ex-#1 veteran by signing him to a 2-way deal and putting things clear like Denis already said in interviews. And that's all.
The door is still open for Sundin all summer long , because that's what he want , the big veteran elite center , right-handed.Great leader.
Sure , maybe he won't come , so be it , we're gonna be top 2 in the east without Sundin anyway. So why panic and make a bad signing ? Nah , Gainey left the door open without calling Sundin every minutes , and Mats will notice that , he will notice the class way of Gainey to tell him he want him on the team.If he don't sign it's ok , we have the cap space to acquire a player like Havlat at the deadline ( just an example ) , but if he dont want to come back to Toronto , I doubt h'ell go to Vancouver , a joke of a team thsi season , even if the money is big.
I don't understand what you guys are getting mad at, he said he wasn't sure if he was going to play in the NHL another season, and he is a man who thinks long and hard on all his decisions, he does this every year to the Maple Leafs and we never were so pissed at him.
Vancouver, Montreal, NY Rangers. He owes all of you guys nothing, why would he rush his decision to satisfy you guys. There's no point in getting mad, Matts moves at his own pace, and he will for the rest of his career he has earned the right to sit there and think, hence why he can demand more money then Crosby on the Market.

If Sundin is in for the money, it will be for the wrong reason (look at Hossa this year in Detroit) and he will go to Vancouver.
If Sundin is in for the emotional aspect, he's re-sign with the Leafs, where his heart was until put on the spot in the media by Fletcher at the deadline.
But if Sundin is in for the right reason, for a chance at winning the Cup, he'll sign with Montreal who is the legitimate contender (of the 3) and still have reasonable money for him under the cap.
If his heart isn't into it anymore, he'll either retire or play in Europe.
It's that simple in my mind.

Why are the Habs a cup contender? Because they lost to the 6th seed after being at the top of the conference? no..
As mentioned by Æn7ropy already, do you feel that Toronto and Vancouver are better contender to the Cup than Montreal is?
Oh...! I would have said yes but then it turns out you were talking about being a contender for the the Stanley Cup, not the race for the #1 draft pick.
As for Mats Sundin... I don't know what's up. I doubt he'll be going to Vancouver since it's a Stanley Cup he'd want. I'd say Montreal would be the #1 choice, not only because of them being a good team, but also because of location (a few hours away from Toronto even by car). I just don't see him settling in the West Coast (I think even Ottawa was an option as he's good friends with Alfie... contrary to popular belief amongst Leafs and Sens fans).
Whatever the case be, my team needs to move on, and seem to be doing alright there... for now.
Nice sig by the way.

Teams that are interested in him are to a point sitting idly by and possibly passing on other signings in the hopes of landing him.
He needs to make a decision one way or the other as right now he is holding teams hostage that have tried to treat him fairly and made more than generous offers.

You know, you're making a good point about Ottawa. Although I don't think they're as good a contender as Montreal at this point, they're still a very good team and the prospect of playing with Alfie mind sway the scale in the Sens' favour as they do have the Cap space as well. They've been pretty quiet on the Sundin front and Sundin may shock everyone, who knows?
I do join the general consensus in this thread in saying that although he doesn't owe anyone anything, he should make up his mind and decide, for his sake and mostly for the teams trying to plan their next season and for the fans to not have to think and talk about it all summer long!

Sundin isn't holding a gun to anyones head here. If a GM feels he can wait it out, then wait it out. If a team feels they can't wait, then go with the backup plan.....no backup plan? Fire the GM!
