Hockey Trades, Rumors & SigningsThe NHL always has a very active trading rumor-mill. Who is the next player to be shipped out? And who will be the next big free agent signing? Discuss NHL trade rumors and free agents.
I'm sure many teams are interested. I'm questioning if Sundin is interested in those teams though.
Of the 6 teams, we know that Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are three of them. From reading the article, it states that Sundin would have to give them time to "make room" for him. Though it could be player-personnel, I'm guessing that Barry meant cap-wise. This leaves me to believe that New York (Rangers) and Philadelphia are two of them. But as I've stated previously, I doubt that they'd be able to move the necessary pieces to make room for Sundin, or it would be very difficult to do so (at the very least). The 6th team is a toss-up, but I'm guessing that Anaheim, San Jose and even Calgary could be it, as they all seem to want to make a push short-term.
I stick with my signature: HEY MATS, MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

I personally think that he will be back in Toronto.
But as was said before, the TO reporters are saying Toronto, the French/Montreal media is saying Montreal, and the West Coast yahoos are saying Vancouver.........
He has said all along since the whole trade deadline fiasco is he wanted to retire a Leaf, and realistically the stupid money that Vancouver has offered may really not come into play as he has made a good amount of money in his career (why did we even go through the lockout again??? oh yeah the owners were crying about how much the players were killing the sport with the money they were making!!!!).
I see he is having a hard time chosing, that is because he truly does not want to leave Toronto, I feel he really is not worried about not winning a cup, he has said he is quite content with a World Champ. and an Olympic gold.
The money? well it is refreshing to see a player actually contemplating passing on a huge stupid money contract to go where his heart truly is.........
The number of teams legitimately interested in the services of Mats Sundin has increased to six according to his agent JP Barry.
''The number has gone up, not gone down since July 1st,'' Barry told the Team 1040 Sports Radio station in Vancouver. ''The other three (teams) would like not to be discussed as much publicly because it just provides more scrutiny.''
Barry did admit that Detroit is not one of the teams interested.
''There are other teams that have said, 'We're that interested in a short-term, one to two year deal. We just want to let you know that if you give us some time, we'll make room'." Barry told the Team 1040. ''So I don't think the demand will slow down if he takes longer. I think there's enough teams out there interested in his services that it's kind of a unique situation.''
Barry also told the Team 1040 that Sundin might not be making any decisions by August 1st.
''He's still taking his time, and he hasn't given us an indication or not if he's going to keep playing or not. You know, when he was speaking in Sweden about August, unfortunately a lot of people picked up 1st of August. He meant August. He meant sometime in August he would definitely decide because he'll definitely be in training camp.''
How did Jay Onrait put it this morning? "Am I the only one tired of hearing about Sundin" then he said something witty, maybe he was talking about Favre, I dunno I was still half asleep.
Sorry Earnhardt, didn't realize you already posted the article.

Friday, 01 August 2008 08:22 In today's episode of "What Will Mats Sundin Do?" we look at the teams that aren't interested in signing him and the possibility he might retire.
TORONTO STAR: Paul Hunter reports Swedish sources are claiming playing hockey may no longer be a priority for Mats Sundin and he may be seriously contemplating retirement. J.P. Barry, Sundin's agent, now suggests the longer it takes for his client to make a decision on his future the greater the likelihood he'll retire. His former club, the Toronto Maple Leafs, are believed to have offered him a $7 million contract to return next season. NEWSDAY: Steve Zipay reports the Rangers, one of six teams believed seriously interested in Sundin, are a long shot to land him given how close they are to the salary cap and the possibility Sundin would have to accept less money to play for them. Zipay speculated Petr Prucha, Dmitri Kalinin and Paul Mara could be among those shopped to teams currently under the salary cap floor to free up cap space. VANCOUVER PROVINCE:Jason Botchford reports Canucks GM Mike Gillis is ready to start next season with or without Sundin, noting he has other plans if Sundin doesn't sign with his club. DENVER POST/CALGARY SUN/COLUMBUS DISPATCH: reports the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets are not believed among the clubs interested in Sundin.
...but I do call him out on being extremely slow at making up his mind and rather very annoying for any hockey fans, especially those cheering for the teams of interest to this whole saga.
I think that time come and went a month or so ago gord.
I don't. Remember that Sundin said back on July 2nd or so that he'd make his decision in August. Gillis knew this and was willing to keep the offer on the table. Fair enough.
But now to hear on August 4th that a decision is still a long way away? Now it's time to tell Mats that he has until the end of the week to take the offer or it will be pulled so the team can move in other directions.
I don't know how much Gillis missed out on until this point, but the dominoes will start to fall soon, with or without Sundin. It would be better if Vancouver was the team leading the way in terms of landing what is still available rather than being left to pick over the scraps come August 20th.
They need at least a top 2 centre and another defenseman. It's time to get to it, Mike.
