Hockey Trades, Rumors & SigningsThe NHL always has a very active trading rumor-mill. Who is the next player to be shipped out? And who will be the next big free agent signing? Discuss NHL trade rumors and free agents.
If the oilers end up having to deal Comrie away which it's looking like they'll have to do what can the oilers expect in return for him?,a proven 1st or 2nd line player or a throw in player like Tucker and draft picks?
Either a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man under 25 years of age and earning less than $2 million in return for Comrie is what the Oilers would be looking for.
Martin Havlat would be nice but the Sens are already full of centres.
I can't think of any teams off the top of my head that are looking for a small centre like Comrie. I hope he likes that hotel room in Ann Arbour...because he's going to be sitting for a while!
He's not worth what hes asking for (not right now anyways). For trade value the fact that he is still unsinged might not hold to well, but i think the oilers could probably get a decent center atleast for him.

The Oilers would have to cough up more then just Comrie if they want to get Havlat. The Oilers would be in a more desperate situation then Ottawa is. Plus, you are dumping one headache to acquire another!!!
You're looking at Havlat through the eyes of a biased Sens fan. Look at their stats and ages. They are very similar.
Havlat: age 22
212 gp, 65 g, 86 a, 151 pts, 0.71 ppg
Comrie: age 23
192 gp, 61 g, 72 a, 133 pts, 0.69 ppg
Trade won't happen though because if the Sens aren't willing to pay Havlat $1.2 million.. then they certainly wouldn't pay Comrie the $2.5 million he's looking for. Plus the Sens are looking for wingers anyway.

I agree with you Gramps, and I'm a Sens fan. Their numbers are very similar. Havlat is 6'1" though. That would be a factor to me. Small centres are less in demand. What is Comrie 5'8" ? And Ottawa is swimming in centres any way so why even talk about it. It will never happen.

Ottawa is clearly the better team, and the logic being that Havlat plays with the better players. Havlat does get 1st line powerplay chances and that certainly helps his points total. But he also plays 3rd line with players who are not 1st line material like Comrie has over most of his career to date(Carter, Smyth). You put Havlat in a situation where he is the number 1 winger, his stats will clearly take a jump. But, I'm relying on IF's, so from an objective point of view, I know that isn't a good argument, but a reasonable one.
I've seen Havlat play more then I have Comrie, I don't deny that and perhaps I'm being biased, but Havlat is a better player and has more potential then Comrie. Havlat has the potential to score 50 goals in the NHL someday, Comrie does not!!! But time will tell!!!
