A report in a Finnish news paper has Koivu saying that if he doesnt have a contract by training camp he'll play in Finland.Koivu you have the potential to be an NHL superstar dont go throw your career away.Hopefully the Habs will have him signed by training camp.

The first problem is that Koivu is not really a first line center. On most teams, he would be a good 2nd line center. He wants to get paid like a first center. Would you build your team with a first center of 5'8 when there are no big wingers? And Koivu is the kind of player to get injured a lot.

2nd problem. Savard has been too generous with Brisebois (4.3M$/year) and Rivest (3M$/year). Everybody knows that Koivu is much more important than Brisebois. But is Gainey comparing Koivu value with 2nd line centers in the league or with Brisebois's salary?

Rivet makes 3M? Wow, that's way over paid for that guy. I mean, RYan Smyth made that much last year, who would you want more?
