Default Rangers target Iginla ?

according to http://tsn.ca the rangers are now after Iginla.

The New York Times quotes an NHL team official who says Rangers GM Glen Sather is interested in prying Jarome Iginla away from the Calgary Flames.

As TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie first reported earlier this month, Flames GM Craig Button is not actively shopping Iginla but he is willing to consider all options. Iginla is scheduled to make more than $7-million next season.

However, the Flames would be interested in receiving established players with manageable salaries in return, something that the Rangers do not have in abundance.

Iginla has been hot of late, scoring 11 goals and 20 points since the start of the new year. He struggled through the first three months of the year with just nine goals and 22 points.

the rich get richer - but does that mean the playoffs?

If Calgary ever gives up Iginla sometime in the near future, you can kiss that franchise goodbye. He's the only thing keeping that team together, and he sells tickets in the stands. I've watched him play in junior, he's one of the best players I've seen. They'd be crazy to give him up after this dissapointing season.

Calgary won't give up Iginla in the offseason because he performed awesome in the second half of the season and if he continues that next season he might be the scoring leader!...... again! but i doubt it!

Hum. maybe the rangers will re-sign Wayne Grty. get him out of retirement, and lemieux and heck why not Micheal Jordan...

The rangers have to many stars. They all want the puck them selves. get rid of some of the stars and fill up the lines with young talent, when todays stars retire, then the rangers will have a young team with knoledge from the previous stars. You have to ahve a mixture, a bunch of super stars is NOT the answer!

They should trade their super stars for young and up coming stars. If it is possible.

Sather certainly seems to think buying an all-star team, will get you the cup. Heck, even I could be a better GM than he is.. at least I'd make smart choices, and make the playoffs of course.
